For those of you who are interested in the "crash bar debate" There are now new less bulky crash bars from Ztechnik. I just ordered some. They are coming out for delivery in 2 weeks.

Great looking guards, I'd be interested in a review once you install. Question: Do you think you could mount highway pegs on one of the tubes?

I'm not sure what highway peg will fit on. They tell me it is 7/8" and then the bar is bent so it is slightly less than that diameter. In addition the part of the crash bar on which I would mount the highway peg appears to be a little flat on the outside and not completely round. This can be seen by looking at the pics. It is a good looking piece however.

At htis time I have the Ztechnik folks looking at which peg will go on. They plan to come out with one themselves but no date is set for that as yet.

Is anyone aware of a universal type clamp for a highway peg that would fit a bar that is slightly flattened on one side and about 7/8"?

My question is do they mount like most valve cover guards on the head itself as does the plastic beemer ones or do they extend down under and mount to a frame support. All of these guards are so expensive if all were trying to protect is the valve cover what's the point the valve cover is not that expensive.

Nope they mount to the...
"ZTechnik’s stainless steel Engine Guards will never rust like powder coated steel guards. They are carefully designed to allow clearance for oil changes or valve cover access, so they never need to be removed. Guards attach to the engine mounts – not the engine covers – to protect the engine heads and not destroy them. Integrated top brackets on each guard allow the rider to mount accessory lights, video cameras, or whatever they can imagine!"

I wonder if the Elf Pegs will work with them??

I do not think the Elf Pegs will work with them. One of the main reasons I am geting them is to allow a more forward position for my legs ( as opposed to eht Elf Pegs). I NEED to stretch out more!

FYI... Model R12R Mick-O-Pegs won't work with these new engine guards, but we have asked the manufacturer if the lower bar is 1" or something different. If it's 1", we have several combinations of Mick-O-Peg models that may work well.

Billy,
You might want to check out TwistedThrottle.com part no. MFW.SBL.S. I had these on another bike. A good product.

Thanks for the peg info. According to ztechnik the diameter starts at 7/8" and narrows to 3/4" as the bar flattens out as it is curved. Aluminum shims may be helpful for mounting Kuryakyn pegs which have a minimum diameter of 1".

A piece of cut inner tube may also do the trick to space it out some. Will also protect the bars from marring.

I tried something similar with my Wunderlich bars which are also 7/8", it didn't work.. pegs didn't grab. I also tried a harder rubber as a spacer and it didn't work.
I used a set of Kuryakyn pegs and the only thing that worked was to remove the spacers that came with them and once tightened down all the way, it held. I have had the bars for about a year now and they are fine.
The Wunderlichs are also 7/8" in diameter.

There is a real ugly thread on the Sport Touring site re: Wunderlich bars tearing up the cases due to the mounting system when a rider went down. Do you know if these mount the same way?
Thanks,
Jim
