Hi,
I recently purchased my first BMW. I went to the Women's BMW ride day last year and rode a K1200R. I was like the Cheshire cat from Alice In Wonderland. I couldn't wipe the smile off my face. I loved the bike, but I knew it wasn't practical for me. I pulled the trigger on a 2009 R1200RT LE black and loaded. I looked all over the Internet for negative reviews but the overwhelming consensus was in favor of the bike.
I took a demo out and fell in love. I get it in August. Can't wait.
In my search I found this group. I like reading the posts. I think I will find a lot info here. I'm a little nervous about service costs and lack of dealers. I have two dealers within an hour of home. I come from Honda land where I never had to think about service.
Anyway,
I'm happy to find this group and hope I can put a worthwhile two cents worth in from time to time.
Come on August...Mama wants her baby!

Welcome here. RT is awesome motorcycle, ride one for work and one off duty. Just can get enough of the RT. Just got off work riding the RT. Get mine service every 6000 miles, should not be a problem. Just ride and enjoy.

CONGRATULATIONS!!
Wait, the feeling you get when you do you own wrenching is even MORE satisfying.. the first time you take off the plastic, change the oil and do your valves and throttle bodies, the feeling of accomplishment, there's nothing like it!
I love going to Tech Days (althought it's been a LONG time) and watching the new(er) riders doing the wrenching for the first time.
I'm on my second beemer, and just picked up my 09 RT about 3 weeks and 2000 miles ago. This bike just BEGS to be ridden..
Hope you enjoy yours for MANY many miles, smiles and years to come.

Welcome to the board and congratulations on your new RT when you get it in August. :D
"Wait, the feeling you get when you do you own wrenching is even MORE satisfying."
Amen to this statement. Have the dealer do the 600 mile service and then do it yourself thereafter. It is not hard to do or learn and you will keep a lot of dinero in your pocket. I recommend finding a tech day or a neighbor in your area to teach you the maintenance. Very satisfying to do it yourself. I also recommend you join www.bmwst.com. There are a lot more RT owners over there and the knowledge from some of the members is just amazing. Enjoy your new RT. The wait until August would be killing me. :wave
