I am thinking about buying an R1100 or R1150RT Something between 2002 and 2006. I am 6'4" and am curious about the riding comfort of these bikes for a taller guy. I have heard about the need to change the windscreen, which is not too big a deal, but what about the leg comfort?
Anyone who is tall and had one of these bikes, please chime in. Ultimately, I will have to sit and ride on one to see if I really like, it, but would love to hear from those who have had their bikes for a while.
Thanks

I'm 6'3" with a 34" inseam. On my R1150RT I exchanged the BMW "comfort" seat for a Cee Bailey's custom seat, which was a major improvement in long-hour comfort. And I changed back to the stock windshield from a Cee Bailey's +3" - they both seemed about equally suitable to me. I ride with custom earplugs and so am not very concerned about noise. I never felt any need for bar-backs or lowered footpegs.
On my R1200RT, although I thought I'd change the seat, I find that the stock seat is surprisingly comfortable. And again, the stock windshield seems fine to me. I know that other riders have had to change both items, and more, to be comfortable. But I think I'll just save some money or maybe get a fancy new riding suit instead.

6' 3 1/2" 220 lbs with a 33 inch inseam & 71 yrs old. I still have the stock windscreen and seat but also have to use earplugs to minimize helmet noise from windscreen blowoff. I would like to try an extended windscreen some time . Mine is an R1100RT. No issues with comfort - just noise.
I did add a rubber band to the throttle to provide a continual assist to help keep it open (i. e. a dead mans throttle). Highly recommended if you don't get a cruise control, and it really saved my wrist on long trips.

I am 6' 4" too and fitted: a Cee Bailey +7" height +4" width euro cut, bar backs, lowered the foot rests gear lever and brake pedal and fitted highway pegs!
Had the 1150RT 2001 to 2008 and found the screen the best improvement, the bar backs and lowered pegs helped too, but the highway pegs were only really of use on motorways (where they were good).
Hope this helps
Toby
PS - The barn door did not look too good but worked a treat!!

I'm 6'4" and have a 34 inseam. My stock 1150rt-p windscren leaves my neck sore after 400 miles or so from the wind buffing. I have a new Cee Bailey +7" hieght and 3+ width on order for my new 1200rt to relieve this problem.

6'3" 235 pounds.
Just bought a 2009RT coming from a 2002RS.. EXCEPTIONAL comfort, great performance, corners like nothing I've ever been on, and I can get over 60 MPG when I put my mind to it.
I did have the dealer take the barbacks (or should I say they did it for me) off of a used RT I test rode, and it made a significant difference. They charged me $50 for their trouble.
I also scrapped the stock windscreen, and now have a standard height Z-Technik.. with the screen down I'm in the air, noisy, but smooth airflow. Up it's total quiet for my and the backseater. The stock windscreen seemed to be about 2 inches too short, as I couldn't get quiet air unless I slouched down in my seat.
I am thinking peg lowering maybe in my future, but right now it's exceptionally comfortable. Upright seating, and QUICK.. look for my "Nobody friggin told me" thread, suprisingly quick and nimble.

Just installed the new Cee Bailey last. Great air flow on my ride today. No wind buffing and I don't have to have the windscreen in the full up postion.

I am 6'4" with a 34" inseam. On my 2000 1100RT I upgraded the comfort seat with a Sargent and the Tall windscreen with an Aeroflow. Both worked well for me and had no problem with long rides. With my 2006 1200RT have a CeeBailey seat and windscreen. Also added handlebar risers from suburban machinery which made a big difference.
I would suggest putting a few miles on whatever bike and see what works and what does not.

I have an '06 r1200rt. I'm 6'4". Stock seat, stock windshield. I'll ride a few hundred miles a day and ride to work 60 miles. It is very comfy for me. I don't hit the fairing with my knees like some other bikes i've ridden. These bikes are great for normal sized guys like us! :D
