View Full Version : CCR "Testimonials" - Why It's So Unique

For those who've never attended a CCR before, it's hard to explain why it is such an amazing and unusual experience, and so different from a typical bike rally. But so many attendees have said exactly that in various ways that I thought I'd start a thread for them to try.

I'll start - with just 3 great things about CCR. Like most of you, I found this website before I ever met any of the people on it in person. I became quite active, soaking in the collective knowledge that is so freely shared here, enjoying other people's trip reports, and "getting to know" (virtually) a bunch of folks who are prominent fixtures - many of whom you all recognize by their first names: Randy, Barrett, El Jeffe, and so on. But I knew them only as online personas.

GREAT THING #1
So the first thing that was great about CCR was getting to meet in person so many of those folks I knew only virtually via this website. It was weird at that first CCR welcome reception, as I met person after person I "recognized" from their names. I felt like I already "knew" them, and discovered that most of them were even nicer in real life than their online personas! I now count several dozen of them as true friends. I've often commented that, as much crap as the internet has spawned, groups like this (and this one in particular) are one of the truly positive things the internet has added to my life.

GREAT THING #2
I had never seen so many LTs in one place as at CCR, and never dreamed there were so many mods & bling on which to spend money! Seriously, I not only got numerous great ideas, I was able to actually see them in practice. Not to mention attending workshops on how to do them to my own bike.

GREAT THING #3
My wife had only been to a few bike functions before she attended a CCR, and didn't particularly care for them. Too much testosterone, too little of any interest to her as a "non-biker"/occasional pillion passenger. CCR has an unheard of percentage of attendees who come as couples. Of course, partners who both ride have plenty to do and discuss, but it is one of the few bike rallies where a non-riding partner can not only enjoy herself (sorry to be sexist, but that is usually the case), but have a great time with others. Both Cheri and I have made life-long friends at CCR. I'm guessing that a lot of you can't say that about any "normal" bike rallies you've attended with your spouse or S.O.

I can think of lots more great things, but I'll let others fill those in. The bottom line is that if you haven't already signed up for this year's CCR in Rapid City (what a GREAT place to hold it!), get off the dime! You won't be sorry!

Well said, Bruce! I didn't really know what to expect the first time I went (OK, actually survived the trip to) a CCR. I remember running into Grif on the sidewalk, having never met him face to face, but in about 15 seconds I knew it was him. And as I met more people it wasn't like "meeting people", it was more like connecting with friends I'd known for a long time. It was, and still is, a very cool experience and a big part of why I keep coming back and stay involved in the event.

That, and we usually end up near some kick-ass riding areas. :)

Not having ever attended a rally of any sort, my first was to be a solo run but due to a surgery date for my wife I had to cancel until the next year. What a trip that turned out to be, Grand Teton National Park!!!! Connie had never been to a rally and from what she'd heard, she wasnt' sure she wanted to go, but she flew out to meet me. We had a great time. There were lots of wives to visit with during the evening, but we managed to put on about 200 miles a day, her limit due to her surgery, in either Yellowstone or Grand Teton. Browsing through the vendors, meeting folks like Randy and Michelle (I thought she was Randy's daughter  ) , Grif and Sandar the Mag, David Taylor, Raffy, Bruuuuuuuuuucie Yates, Ken Meese and many others, plus the presentation to the children's charity at closing banquet. Oh My!

When we got home, I ask Connie "Well what did you think?' "You make sure you're signed up as soon as registration opens every year. If we can't go, then we can't go, but you WILL be signed up." And that folks, is that name of that tune. :bmw:

So I'm looking forward to seein' old and new friends this year. Are we there yet??

Our first CCR was in Braselton, GA. As we had met many before CCR, (At RTE's and tech sessions) I thought I knew what to expect. Miss E and I had a great time although she had to leave early. We made lifetime friends with many people on this site, many that remain friends away from this site. Some of the most generous people I have ever met are on this site. There are many that I owe a lot to. From Knowledge shared, to Help in many ways, I will never forget the members here.

So I would say that FRIENDS are the Number ONE thing, that comes from CCR! I dont think there is enough room in this post to list by name who they are! I will not even try!

I have been to Tan-Tara, and Midway and have been depressed ever since realizing I cannot attend this year!!! New Job prevents me from attending.

Our first was Osage Beach Mo. 2007 we pulled up to the hotel 'round 5 pm, HOT & tired . When we got off the bike and looked up there was Grif will a bell man's cart. I knew it was down hill from there :histerica We had a blast connecting with some old friends & meeting new ones. This will be Sammie's & mine 3 CCR and hope to make many more.

Well, hate to sound like a broken record folks, but it really is all about friends! It's about the people who are there as much as, or even more than, the Bikes! We missed Hot Springs, but tried to catch every one of them after our first one in Santa Fe! And we have managed to catch all the remaining except for two years when circumstances intervened. It is the great get together that we both anticipate every year.

It is really fun to find yourself bumping into other riders who may happen to be on the same roadway as yourself and find out they are also heaading to CCR. Especially when you find it is someone you already knew! This has happened to Marilyn and I twice now.

And the final thing that really is so great about our CCR is the gift we are able to bestow on a local children's charity. It really does bring tears to your eyes when we present the check and they react to the gift. A real warm feeling for being part of such a generous group while having a great time socializing is really hard to beat! Oh yeah, add the great riding that is always available and you just can't beat it for a terrific time.

My first was 2005 at Jackson Lake Lodge, WY.

Its just an experience that encompasses everything you could want to do, in just a few days time (never enough time).

Helping Others... Last year in UT I met a great couple who live in FL. Jim needed help re-routing his wiring to his newly purchased GPS bracket, so I pulled out my tool outfit and a few hours later, Walla!

We then suited up and went on a long ride shortly there-after to test it all out :)

And of course, finalized the evening with drinks around the table :p

Yes, it is all about the friendship, .... and the passion that everyone else shares about the same.

An old friend of mine had a good saying.... Life is Good.

And it is at the CCR!
