Anyone have a fix for leaking side cases?

I have a K1200LT and the side cases leak during a heavy rain. The case lids don't seem to cam shut as tight as they could but I find no adjustment.

I could replace the seals at $58 each. Will I still have the same problem if the lids aren't closing tightly on the inner part of the case?

Anyone else ever had this issue? Any ideas?

Hey, Ron - howdy. Can't say as I've ever read about this on the forums. You might give Lone Star a call and ask to speak to Mike G. in service, and see if he has any suggestions. He's prolly seen it all and if anyone has any experience like this, in the South Central Tejas area, Mike wuz prolly the go-to guy to get a fix on it.

My left side case had a one inch piece of the seal missing right in the middle at the top. I used some self adhesive weather strip and a dab of silicone at each end to stop my leak.

I checked with Josh over at LSBMW and all he recommended was replacing the seals. I'll give Mike G a ring and see what he says. Never had this issue on my first LT so I'm a little bewildered.

The seals appear to be fully in tact. What I don't see is a tell-tale indication of persistent contact with the case lid as evidenced by some indentation in the seal material. With the lid shut, I can easily press the lid more tightly closed with very little effort.

One fellow suggested I remove the seals, place a small bead of silicone chalking in the channel and replace the seals without seating them to their former depth. The other option is to replace the seals and hope the new seals are thicker. I would have thought there was an adjustment somewhere to make sure the lids seated properly. Guess not.

I have a 2002 LT and my left side case seems to leak if left sitting on the side stand in the rain. I have not ridden much in the rain so I can't say anything about it leaking at that time. I have not got around to investigating a fix but probably should because the interior is starting to smell musty. Thanks for your posting and let me know if you find a fix I will do the same.
