We are considering a ride to Nova Scotia and along the Cabot Trail.
I have done some research on the internet but have not found the answers to a few questions.
We are riding two up and tenting at night. For the sake of my passenger please offer advise as to the best time of year, least chance of rain and when? are the bugs less formidable? We would choose July unless otherwise advised as to a better time. We will be riding from Ontario.
Thanks

Hi Mike, I can't answer your questions but I too am planning a trip to Nova Scotia for this summer. I use the site http://novascotia.com/en/home/default.aspx for general info. Also, at http://www.novascotia.com/ride/ you can obtain a free Motorcycle Tour Guide for Nova Scotia. I have received it and it answers all of your questions regarding camping, weather, cycle repair shops, etc. I found it very helpful. Good luck!

Mike,
I was up there over ten years ago. We went in early June and I can tell you that this is too early. I don't recall ever getting out of my raingear. There were low clouds and fog every day. On the way back, I was genuinely afraid of being swept into the sea as the waves were crashing over the causeway near Port Hawkesbury.
Still, it was one of the best rides that I ever had. I would love to go back again, but I would go much later in the summer.

Thank you for the valuable input.
Diane and I have decided to make the trip beginning with a ride to Burlington Vermont last week in July, to the BMW MOA Rally then on to Cape Breton, ride the Cabot Trail, home through Quebec, see Quebec City, then to Ontario - home. Total about 8 days if good weather, 10 if delayed.

I went last year in June the Third week.I call it the Nightmare Trip.Four riders we went from Florida.on the Autotrain to Washington DC.Then up back roads to Pa then Nj Then NY then Scenic route through New England to Bar Habour It was Raining Cats and Dogs in Maine then the ferry from hell to Nova every one got sick.Never Again.Spent 7 Days in my rain Suit Cold as a winter day in Alaska. The whole trip was lousey the Bay of Fundy was in a Fog the tide is as advertised it recedes tremendously. The Tidal Boar was a ripple. The roads in Nova are the worlds Worst especially the ones starting with 3,2 is a little better.1 is the best I had to stop many times and replace mirrors thank God for teathers. One Companions headlights Blew out from the rough roads,Cape Breton was total nightmare nothing but cold, rain fog.Did not see any Whales Moose,Or Eagles .I had to buy a Picture book to see what i missed. My advice is go the Blue Ridge Parkway at least you can come down off the mountain in lousey weather.Go to Nova in a car from BC.The people are the Best you can get. They love visitors and they let them know it.Don

The April issue of Rider Magazine has a ride detail of Nova Scotia. The author did it on a Goldwing I think. That issue is still on the newsstands. Some great looking scenery.

While it is a beautiful place and I've been there several times, I don't think there is a Dry Season. I'm pretty sure all those beautiful brochure photographs were all taken between 3PM and 3:15PM, August 18th, 1969.

I spent most of August 2004 there, and it only rained twice in a month. We put over a 1000 miles on the bicycle and looking through the ride log, never rode in the rain.
People are really nice, but if you want to see friendly and nice people, go to New Foundland.
