I think I can make the afternoon of the 21st work. Patsy said she'll bring a book to read while we fart ,............. around,.........with the bikes. :D
Do you have something to prop up the front end while we remove the wheel or do i need to leave the bike at home? I can bring the torque wrench and other tools for removal in the saddle bags.

Enjoy Rome, it's a beautiful City. Make sure you visit the prison cells where Paul and Peter were held. It's an inspiring yet humbling experience. Of course the Vatican and Sistine Chapel (spent an hour in the sanctuary studying the ceiling).
We'll do our best with the hammer. I don't think Steve'll let us break anything tho. ...party pooper. ;)

Will anyone have a GS-911 error code reader with them? I'm having a problem with my R1150R. I had spoken with Grif about using his, but haven't had a chance to ride to his house to use it.
The red warning light stays on when I ride the bike. According to the manual it is a problem with the tail or brake light. 3 years ago I replaced that with a diode board to have a flashing brake light. I had no problems until about 6 months ago. Last weekend I checked the connections to the diode board, one may have been loose, and when I put it back together everything was fine - the light went off. I rode 30 miles to test it with out a problem. Today I decided to ride the bike to work - and the light stayed on all the time.
If someone will have a GS-911 at the tech session I would like to hook it up to the bike to see what's wrong.

Well it was a great "MINI" Tech Session !!!! Bo showed up 'round 7:30 on the GS with 2 new tires strapped to the back. He helped me finnish some chores in the house the also help set to the "EZ UP" & tire machine. Away we went , Bo pulling tires & me breakin them down and mounting new ones. "Bout that time Rocky limped in with a ABS Fault. He Pulled the rear tire and rotor as he was there for a EBC rotor install.
We whipped it out in about 15 minutes and stared lookin the what was causing the ABS wig wag lights. "bout now Jim pulls in & I get him pulling his front wheel as Bo helped Rocky .Once we got Jims' bike together we shuffled bikes to get Rocky in the shade of the garage. Once in the shade we saw a very faint voltage light flicker at idle. We put a volt meter on the battery & to only pulled 10 volts Bo said that "Should" be what is causing the ABS problem.
After a short lunch break Benny showed up & we got started on his front tire. We did have some trouble with his tire altho it was nothing compared to Jerry's tire at Grif's :D the first balance took 9 weights. So we turned the tire 180 degrees & still took 7 weights. Now remove the tire and find the heavy part on the rim. reinstall the tire & still too many weights so we turn the tire again . Now we have only 3 weights & can live with that. On the bright side Bo's back tire took 4 & the front only took 1 weight. All in all it was a great day

Steve and Bo thanks for all your help. I learned quite a bit and hopefully I can get the LT back on the road. It was no fun running in Austin traffic with undependable brakes. But I made it home. The charger did not improve the battery situation so I will try and replace it with a Odyssey.
All in all it was a good day

Thanks to Steve & Sammie for hosting. Lovely home, great company! Didn't get to visit with Jim or Rocky much, they were gettin' ready to head out when we arrived. Thanks to Steve & Bo and some serious head scratchin', I learned that the heavy point on my front wheel is about 60 degrees off from the valve stem. Got the new tire on and all is well. Got some great advice from Bo on shielding my Starcom from rain ... if it should ever rain round here agin.
Did my part for the dogs, broke a sweat and went into the house to be the human popsicle for the salt starved. Course I had to pet 'em some too........there just so darn cute! ;)

I just wanted to step in here and thank everyone who made it to Stevie's Tech Session. Seams everyone had a good time & I know Stevie was thrilled to get to work on all those bikes. Next to riding them I think he enjoys working on them almost as much. Again thank you to everyone that made it. It was nice for me to put faces to names of the people I hear all about but have not meet as of yet.

Steve and Bo,
I replaced the battery with an Odyssey which was fully charged and tested. Installed it and I am still getting the ABS failure. Oddly enough once I have the ABS warning light on, I still have brakes, just dont mash down hard on them or they completely fail. So where do I go from here. Is there someway to isolate the problem and determine whether the fault is due to the ABS pump?

Have you checked the sensor gap?
I was told the system likes to be at the small end of the range.

Measuring tool is in your tool kit. Shims from dealer.

OOps, bought the bike used and got no tool kit!!!! Of course, would this account for a failure just all of a sudden? I got the failure warning in the middle of a ride. Is there another sensor or relay. can this be hooked to some diagnostic device to see what the failure is.

GS911 might tell you the problem. Moditec will for sure.
Have you had any issue with speedometer?
Might be the rear sensor acting up.
When the brake warning is on,you still have brakes, right? They don't completely fail.
Rocky
Jun 24th, 2009, 6:38 am
I have partial brakes. Upon the failure which occurs now everytime I apply the front brakes, even just slowly backing it out of the garage. When I start, the warning lights go out just as they should but upon applying the front brake, I get the warning light. If I lightly apply the brakes I can bring the bike to a stop but if I mash down hard, the brakes completely fail.
I replace the front brakes pads about 12,000 miles ago and the rear pads about 3500 miles ago. Perhaps I will check the front pads. Steve and I changed the rear rotor, so I will try to check the air gap on the rear. I guess I will have to find a set of shims to make the adjustment if necessary.
I had this same problem a couple of months back but it reset it self the following morning after adding some brake fluid to the rear reservoirs and I have not seen the problem since.
I am just hoping it is not the ABS Pump.
