...and no, I'm NOT talking about the nose bleed section! ;)
Here's what we literally uncovered when we dissected a seat made by a "company" that purports to save you a lot of money by "modifying" your existing seat for a bargain price.
That old saying about getting what you pay for still applies.
What did they do?
1) They partially removed the old vinyl leaving about 1/2 of the OEM staples in place - just enough room to work their magic.
2) They "installed" a 31/2 inch by 4 inch piece of CHINESE 1/2 inch medium density visco elastic foam - and did a sloppy job at that! This foam is absolute garbage and will literally oxidize and turn into powder in a year. IT IS A FAKE and costs about 10% of what REAL visco elastic foam costs.
(There is a HUGE difference in the quality of visco foam - we use ONLY American made foam from 3M subsidiary EAR Specialty Composites - the quality is sublime - so good it is used in the space shuttle, F-16's and Apache Helicopters. www.EarSC.com (http://www.EarSC.com). We cover practically the entire seat with a composite of multiple layers of different density foam selected specifically for each customer's weight.)
3) They then re-stapled the cover and sent it back to the customer for the princely sum of $150.00 plus shipping. They also used common steel staples instead of much more expensive stainless steel Monel. Common steel staples are NOT suitable for outdoor use and will rust rapidly.
4) This entire "modification" took all of 15 minutes to accomplish. Not bad work if you can get it. There is about $2.00 worth of new Chinese foam glued to the existing OEM polyurethane. That's IT!
To say the customer was pissed is an understatement when sent these pictures after complaining to us that his "new" seat was still uncomfortable. :brick:
