Michelle and I were reminiscing about our trips to Canada and looking forward to heading up there again next month. For those of you who haven't made a trip to the Canadian Rockies, you don't know what you're missing. The scenery is stellar, the people are wonderful and the roads are great. This will be our fourth visit in ten years and we are looking forward to it more than ever.

We have iusually stayed in Banff, but this year we are going to stay in Jasper at the luxurious Fairmont Lodge. This is a beautiful property nestled in the majestic Canadian Rockies overlooking a lake, just outside the village of Jasper.

Our Canadian Friend, Randy Ferras worked with the hotel to get some reduced rates - making their "Fairmont Room" with a normal rack rate of $329cdn only $179cdn. With the current exchange rate that makes the room about $153usd. For just a little more than a Comfort Inn we are able to stay in a 5-star resort in an exclusive mountain setting.

This very clean hack rig is for hire in Jasper. I have seen him the last two times I was up there.

While Jasper is a picturesque town to stay in and the resort is a bueautiful place to unwind in the evening, the real story is the riding. You could easily fill a week just heading out of the hotel for day rides (http://www.bmwlt.com/rides/jasper/rides.html). While we are not planning any group rides, I am sure many of will get together with other riders as we head out each morning.

Michelle and I are also planning stops on the way there and will be returning through US Glacier, Yellowstone and Grand Teton National Parks.

Since a lot of people have decided to cut back on travel due to concerns about the economy, this might be the best opportunity in years to enjoy the area without a crush of summer travelers. The exceptional room rates will likely be much higher next year.

Here are a couple of pages of pictures from my trip in 2007 click (http://www.prades.net/alaska2007/day19/HTML/index.htm) click (http://www.prades.net/alaska2007/day20/HTML/index.htm) and here (http://www.prades.net/canada2004/HTML/index.htm) is a page from our trip in 2004.

We really hope some more of you will join us.

Wish I could make it. The pictures are beautiful.
If I was an official with Parks Canada I would hire you for Tourism promotion Ambassador.
Your're right about the fantastic hotel rates at a Fairmont property; Great time to take advantage of it if you can.
Enjoy your trip and I'll be watching for new pics.
