This method has probably been discussed many times but it may be worth explaining again. I have used this method on both the 06 and 09 GT.

I can now see that this was explained in Canbus 101

Very good write-up and excellent photos, David. This will be helpful to anyone hooking up accessories for the first time. What devices are you powering?

Hey David, if you'll post this on www.k-bikes.com (http://www.k-bikes.com), I'll put it in the Hall of Wisdom there.

Fixed it for you as the "-" between K & B was missing.
And it does make a difference. :D

The three wires are numbered 1 through 3. Wire 1, = ground; Wire 2, = direct
12v on and off; Wire 3 12v direct on and delayed by 1 minute switched off.

David
I was told that Wire 2 was the speed pulse for the factory installed GPS or any other GPS that has the speed pulse assist feature. ??

Good job.

Sorry, I don't anything about wire #2 being a speed wire.

Sorry, I don't anything about wire #2 being a speed wire.Your meter may show it being 12v, but if you wire to it, it won't power your device. It pulses voltage according to speed and is used to inform a GPS device.

I assume that it "informs" BMW-brand navigation systems (e.g., Navigator III).

Do you know if it can be wired to "inform" 3rd party GPS products (e.g., Garmin Zumo)?

Do you know if it can be wired to "inform" 3rd party GPS products (e.g., Garmin Zumo)?Only if the GPS has a speed pulse input line. The top-end built-in factory units usually do, while the all-in-one portable units usually don't.
