Voice II questions..and issues

I have a 2008 K1200LT with the Voice II system. We use J&M Elite headsets with the HO mikes, as was suggested by the vendor who installed the headsets in our Shoei Multitech helmets. I have no problems with using the radio or iPod interface. What I am disappointed in is the intercom system. I seem to have various levels of volumes that come and go as we ride along and try to talk to one another. The radio has had the automatic function that increases the volume as speed/noise increases set to disabled mode. The sensitivity level of the mikes has been set at the lowest level. At any other level it seems that you have to speak quite loudly to get the mics to kick on. On my previous bike, a 2005 Honda Goldwing, I had no similiar issues. These were also older J&M headsets and went with the new owner of the 'Wing. When a conversation starts it seems like the volume level starts out a bit high then immediately drops off. The signal then just seems a bit weak.

I have had the headsets and cords checked out by the vendor who installed them and they found no issues. The BMW dealer says it seems as though everything is working as it should be.

I am disappointed with the performance of this intercom and wondered what I should go next to find any potential issue. I have also thought about going the Bluetooth route but really don't want to spend the money or the additional agrevation of charging the batteries.

Any help anyone can offer would be a good thing. This should work as good as most everything else on this bike does.
