Hey Buckeyes, anyone up for lunch next Saturday 3/28 somewhere around Columbus?

250 mile radius should cover it.

Weather permitting of course. Any suggestions anyone?

I dropped my LT off at Mathias BMW (New Philadelphia) yesterday for some service. I'm scheduled to pick it up next Saturday, the 28th. Maybe I can meet you and others for lunch somewhere. I'll be watching this thread.

Well then a plan can develop from there.

I propose meeting Howard somewhere in the Amish country after his pick up or at Mathias and then to lunch out that way somewhere.

I know Neil is in, if available. Anyone else?

Yup, I'm in. I won't be able to ride tooooo long, dad's in Texas that weekend so I have to hold the fort down here.

Anyone heard from Mike? I PMed him the other day for his birthday, and haven't seen him on lately

Crap - I promised I'd take my son to a Mustang car show that Saturday. Keep this link going in case my plans change. I need to drop my LT off at Mathias sometime soon for its 24k service.

Hey guys,

I appreciate your consideration in including me. I'll just add that my bike is supposed to be worked on beginning Wednesday and it should be ready by Friday, which means I can pick it up Saturday. Please don't be peeved if you plan your meeting place around my schedule and I don't get the bike back on time.

I didn't mention that I passed on Mathias' offer of a K1200RS as a loaner while they had mine. I'm kicking myself now. It would have been a great chance to try something different but I didn't trust my average skills on that bike. They are getting a new R1200RT in on Wednesday as a factory demo bike and I just may run up there after work on Wednesday and get it. That would give me 2-3 full days of demo time on a new RT, something I'd love to do.

Howard-
Did you buy your bike there? I took my bike there for a service last year and they didnt offer a rental. Of course I was only there for about four hours. I took Wed - Friday off this week and hoped to run my bike up there but I need a new rear tire that I hope will get replaced early this week. If they offer a loaner of any kind it would be a plus. I hate dragging my wife up there.

Hey John a little off subject but I go through Columbus several times each year. How many different routes do you know from NC?. I've done US-23 from Asheville & have done both sides of the river from Charleston WV.

Are you going to swing by STC?. If so maybe we can look at some maps

Dave.

JimJim, I bought mine at Motohio (formerly BMW MC of Columbus). Motohio shop rate: $95/hour. Mathias shop rate: $55/hour. For a 12k service, brake flush, and aux. fuse panel install, it's well worth the two hours each way to go there instead of Motohio.

I always ask about a loaner and they always oblige without hesitation. One time I had an old K75S (sport model; no thanks but it got me home,); another time I had an old POS Yamaha semi-chopper of some kind. Yikes. Just ask 'em!

Regarding your new tire: see my new thread. My "tire shop" is open for business.

Easy answer, pick a road that goes towards southern OH through WV and you will not be dissapointed, you will not find a straight one :)
Going down from my place I took, US 250 south - OH 800 south - OH 26 south covered bridge road pretty curvy, watch for cops - Down I77 for a bit - WV 47 east - US 33 east - US 219 south - then jumped on interstate rest of the way.

Howard, hows come your not tackling the service yet? You got a lift now and a tire changer.

... Howard, hows come your not tackling the service yet? You got a lift now and a tire changer. At this point I'm doing tire changes, engine oil change, and FD oil change. I'm having Mathias do the valve check, transmission oil change, and air & fuel filters. They are also doing a complete brake flush and installing a Centech fuse panel. These items are out of my comfort zone, although if I had someone providing guidance I could do them. I really don't "do" wiring and electrical things. Maybe some day...

Not too many routes. Usually trying to get there yesterday. Thus I-77/Rt33 if straight to Columbus or I-75 if stopping in Cincy for a bit. I have done the whole 23 thing. Boy does that run through some depressing parts of Kentucky.

But, I do have a good one for you if you have allllll day. Up through Linville (181), Boone (194), Mountain City(421), Damascus (91). Tazewell (91), Ironton (161,103,52), Logan (93), and then 33 into Columbus. Took me 15 hours on that route one day, but what a ride.

STC - always hard to say. May stop in Saturday morning or if able to get away Friday and the weather is good for pitching a tent, overnight Friday to Saturday. I'll give a yell if something is firmed up.

Mathias BMW finished with my LT today, so I'm picking it up tomorrow at lunch time. (I'm off Friday) This means you guys don't need to accommodate me by meeting in/near Amish country... unless you want to.

I'm up for wherever you want to meet on Saturday. If some Cleveland folks are coming down then I think John's idea of some place north of Columbus is a good idea, but really - wherever you all decide is fine.

Joe could drive the car down, or ride as Paul's passenger... :D

You make your plans like I do. Pick the crappiest weather weekend for a ride! :) I dont know if I can meet on Sat -- I told my son I would take him down to the Mustang show this weekend but I would love to try. There is a little dinner right in the center of Mt. Vernon just off the round-about. Greasy spoon with extra grease. Let me know if you need extra warm clothing. I have a Gerbings jacket and gloves I could let you use if you didnt pack for the cold weather that is supposed to settle in this weekend. Let me know.
Thanks,

Don't freak Howard!
I didn't get the final cut last fall because I returned from my trip in mid November and it was snowing and snowed and snowed and . . . well you know.

There was a lot of matting and dead stuff so I did a rake job and then cut. I'll still have to de-thatch when it starts growing again.

It's 34 deg now. Hope it warms up in the next hours or so when I leave!

bad news is that I missed the RTE.

good news is that I got out of ER on Saturday and was home by 4:45 PM. Radiologist thought he might have seen something on the stress test pics, so had to see a Cardiologist who said based on my symptoms and what he thinks was just an artifact on the pics that I must have just been experiencing some muscular pains (good to hear I still have some muscles :) ) or maybe some nerve things going on. At that point he was talking a different language even after we asked him to explain in laymans terms. I just have to start taking a baby aspirin every day and follow up with the Cardio doc in 4-6 weeks.

Lets put another RTE on the calendar and I'll try to stay out of ER so I can be there :)

Hello,

I found this thread while lurking and would like to throw my hat into the ring for a RTE. I'm up in Cleveland and just picked up a 01' LT. I am duly impressed so far. Havent been on a bike for 7-8 years now and was a little wobbly and a little scary at first, but it all came back to me. And if the weather turns bad and you decide to bring out the R32 and the Mini, I'll complete the triple crown with my Corrado! Best of luck to all, I am learning so much and have met the friendliest people on these forums.

It's a possibility - a remote one - for me. I'm working Monday-Wednesday most weeks in Cleveland. This Sunday I'll be leaving the house around 3:00-4:00 PM, and if the weather is reasonable I'll still be on the bike, as I have been.

I'll be coming up I-71 to Bagley Rd., or State Route 13 to Bellville and then I-71 to Bagley Rd. if I leave early enough to do it in daylight.
