Hiya Hiya
I just bought a new 2004 1150r on a good price here in DFW area.
Could you tell me more about the bike things I should know from a 1150r rider
point of view. I am kinda old /new rider.
I took this bike base on waht I am going to use it for been looking at the
1200rs. I decided that this bike is the best bang for the bucks.
Thank you,
Dartmanok of Bedford

I have a 2004 R1150R that will be 3 years old this coming May. I have 41,000 miles on it. The only problem I have had with it was a rear brake pad coming loose and lodging against the disc. The disc and pads were replaced under warranty. I have BMW bags, the BMW touring windshield, handguards (it came with heated grips) and a Bob's wristrest. I previously had a 99 R1100RT and I like the R better. I have did a couple 800 mile plus days and find the bike to be comfortable. Glad that you got a good deal on yours. I bought mine new and I don't like how little it is worth if I wanted to trade it.

Dartmanok,
Let us know a little more about your R, milage, options and such - post a picture.
The dual spark R engine runs well and after about 18,000 or so break in miles, smooths out nicely. The R engine just gets better and better with age.:D
Congrats on the new to you R.

just traded my 04/1150R today for a 1200RT. Sort of decided I wanted a new one had 22k on the 1150 and wanted some more comfort but at the same time sport. Loved the 1150R for my "reviving" of old skills after 25years off the saddle. Great bike for allround. :D

I have a 2004 1150R abs with 26k on the clock. I added the system cases, throttle lock, gps, Sargent seat and a Parabellum Scout fairing. I have done a couple of SS1000 on the bike with no problem. The sad thing is I don't think I can get much over $6k for the bike as it sits. It has the resale value of a Kia Rio.
Thinking of going to the 1200GS....

Dartmanok, congrats. I have a 2002 ABS (black) I bought new about 3 1/2 years ago. It's been a great bike. I've done many 8-12 hour days in the
(stock) saddle with no problems, and a 15 hour shot from the MOA last July, stopping only for gas (and traffic.....). Here's what I've done to it:
Kisan Signal minder SM-5 (worth its weight in gold)
Run' N' Lights LED flashing brake lights below license tag
Speedster windscreen
BMW System Cases w/ Applied Graphics reflective decals
Stealth backrest
Wunderlich Engine protection bars
PIAA 1100X aux lights
Givi V46 Top Case custom-mounted to BMW RR/KRS Mounting plate which locks to bike. See pics: www.r1150r.org/board/viewtopic.php?p=19510&highlight=#19510
XM Radio (Roady2)
Valentine 1 Radar
Garmin Quest GPS
Wunderlich Bar Backs
T-Bag "Universal Helmet Bag"
Throttlemeister
BMW Cover
BMW battery Tender
And of course my EZ Pass toll tag (zip tied to my front fork)
If you're gonna change your own oil you'll need the BMW oil head filter wrench also.
I MAY be trading the R in for a new R1200ST, if I do I'll be unloading the above goodies. Keep checking the "Buy/Sell" forum on R1150R.org. I've got the same handle/avatar on that forum.
Welcome aboard and good luck.
