I can hardly hear anything when I plug my ER6 earplugs into my Baehr system. I have to turn the volume up really high to get some sound out of them, and then it's pretty distorted, not to mention the the second person with speakers is getting blown out thier helmet.

I purchased an adapter (item HA2, http://www.plugup.com/baehr.php) from "Now Hear This" (PlugUp.com) which gives me a mini female to plug the ER6 into. Tha HA2 has male & female Baehr plugs side so I can continue to use the mic in the helmet.

I've seen this problem before with sound systems when you plug into the "out-line" that is suppose to go to another unit that has amplification.

Any ideas?
Gary

PS I'm using a just purchased Baehr K1200LT unit with a 2000 K1200LT cycle.

Gary,

I probably can not help you much but just to get a clearer picture of your setup:

Do you have regular Baehr helmet speakers at all? The reason I'm asking is that I also have the earplug speakers but they are hooked parallel to the helmet speakers. This meaning that my helmet has a regular speaker / mic setup and the earplug speakers are just hooked up to the 2,5 mm female jack located next to the helmet DIN connector. The original (parallel?)connection was made by my Baehr dealer and I have never taken the helmet cables apart. The way it looks from outside makes me think that there are no fancy electronic gadgets (resistors or what have you...) used in this.

So is it so that the problem only occurs with the earplug speakers or have you had a chance to use the regular helmet speakers? If the problem is with both, then the problem is with your Baehr unit. I take you know it has the separate volume pre-setting in the main unit (In fact one for left and right channell). Have you tried to adjust that?

Let's hope better experts will chime in...

Hi Ari,

Yes, the regular speakers do work. To make sure the Baehr system was working normally, I eliminated the earplugs all together. Once I got both helmets working ok, I added the HA din adaptor the the speakers continue to work. I then pluged in the ER6 and thought that they didn't work at all. It wasn't until I turned up the volume that I notice that the earplugs did have some sound coming out of them, but very little.

I can't believe I'm the first one to report this problem. I know that the Baehr system is highly recommened and that the ER6's are suppose to be great. I know they sound good walking around with my iPod.

Thank you,
Gary

Hi Gary,

I'm not much of an expert with electronics but now that you told us that your helmet speakers work perfectly and your earplug speakers are OK with iPod, I would put my doubt on the HA2 unit.
I don't think the Baehr main unit is the problem. Maybe there is a loose soldering or something in the HA2 DIN-plug or more likely in the female 2,5 mm socket. If the unit is under warranty I would send it back, otherwise I would take it apart myself and check the connections.
