On page 85 of the current ON magazine they are listing Norris Cooper of Andover, KS as having passed away in August. I hadn't heard anything here about his passing, and I felt something should be said even though I didn't know him (or rarely agreed with him) since he was an active member of this community. I was wondering why he hasn't been ranting about the election or arguing with Ken about something or other for the past 6 months.

His posts were interesting and articulate. Though I only knew him through his words here, I have and will continue to miss his participation in our community. His last post (http://www.bmwlt.com/forums/showthread.php?p=321424#post321424) was on August 9.

Like Randy and many others I only knew him through his words here,
I usually liked his comments (probably because I'm a "redneck" at heart)
and always thought of him as one of the few real "cowboys" left.
In my opinion this world could use more men like him and is a "lesser" place because of his passing.

I was wondering why I had not seen any of Norris' comments lately. I too enjoyed his comments, even though I often disagreed with him. However, debate teaches one that there are other opinions that are just as valid as those we hold and through serious and civil debate our ideas mature. I will miss Norris. RIP.

Wow, has it really been that long since Norris posted? I will miss his style... He did say what was on his mind. Cool avatar too!

It's sad indeed when you realize that someone in your community has passed and no one really noticed. Until this thread I hadn't. I do recall his posts and point of view and I always liked reading his posts. Unfortunately I didn't notice how his posts stopped suddenly. Sadly enough it appears that none of us did...

I agree , This leads me to wonder how many times that this could have happened before. Sometime I look at names on the birthday list , ones I don't recognize I look at the profile. I know most just sign up , spend a little time then don't come back. Have they just stopped coming by or passed on?? I too did not really know Norris only his words. It saddens me that someone can pass with no one every knowing. :(

It's sad indeed when you realize that someone in your community has passed and no one really noticed.True, but online communities are a bit different. People tend to drop by and then drop out for a while for many reasons: family, work, or maybe just going for a long ride. There is no minimum commitment, or no regular expectation as if you saw someone every day at work, or every Sunday at church, or every night at a bar. Plus online communities tend to be huge, numbering in the thousands or tens of thousands or more. So if someone drops away for a while, there usually isn't any indication as to why, or for how long.

I will also miss Norris's spirited debates, and I hope that wherever he ended up, he's happy with what he found there.
