That makes it at least 12 bikes and 22 people - not bad at all.
Now, if each of us finds ONE more person each, by keeping a flyer (http://www.bmwlt.com/rides/gb1/documents/T1IBMWKLTToGB2009.pdf) on us at all times to put onto a K1200lt whenever we see one - it will be massive!

Just got off the phone with the Castle.
Was surprised she had two single rooms left for 10-11 July.
Spoken to Chris Llanerch
So, booked over there.
One for me, one for a new entrant: Frank Pustlauk from Cologne.

This courtesy bus shure comes in handy after the Carvery and BBQ!
I'll be the Amsterdam lager lout :-)

Looking forward to some tongue twister local slang.

Just ONE room left now at the Castle before they are full as well.
I will be phoning round the area to see if there is anywhere else for people to stay.
(btw if you have larger at the Castle, you are missing some excellent Ales!)

Here you go (http://www.bbc.co.uk/cgi-bin/wales/learnwelsh/welsh_dictionary.pl?gair=ale&Chwilio=Search) - practice that all you want, it won;t get you anything though - the pubs round here don't do Welsh!

Hello,
I was on the Help for Heroes ride from Bovvington to Brighton last Saturday, had only just arrived and our group were deep in conversation bemoaning our journey when a very enthusiastic ' foreign accented chap' chap came along and started talking about a LT rally in Wales. My LT was the only one I'd seen all day?

I mentioned this on the CW Riderclubbers email loop and someone said, 'that was Andonni' (? spellling) but also gave a limk to this site.

So now I'm here !

Will do my very best to attend for part of the w/e, having a 5 month old baby does curtail activities, if only the top boxes were bigger..... ;)

Cheers for now,

Steve

Another UK member.. Welcome Steve,
you’ll find this site very useful as we all do, all you have to do is ask,
that is if you can’t find the answer,

Will be great if you can make it to the Treffen, if only for the ride out..

NB: The top box is bigger than you might think!!

We three, Hartmut, Frank and Vic are coming in in dover Friday morning taking M20, M25 and M40, south of London. Then M42, M5, A449.

Since we're on a tight schedule we focus on arrival, no time for detours.

Vic

Stick Swindon into your route as a waypoint - you will see it is a far better route from Dover. I did this last week and it took just 4 hours.
Swindon to Gloucester is very quick - not motorway, but just as fast duel carrageway. M42 has nasty variable speed cameras.

I was going to send out directions to each participant, but this seems to make more sense;

A - From the South of Wales, Scotland or England (http://maps.google.com/maps?f=d&source=s_d&saddr=Knighton,+Powys,+United+Kingdom&daddr=lloyney&geocode=FX-6HgMd5HHR_w%3B&hl=en&mra=ls&sll=52.3607,-3.08097&sspn=0.038945,0.09716&ie=UTF8&z=14) - make sure you use Knighton (Powys) as the GPS destination. Then take the B4355 Newtown road to get to Lloyney (3 miles).

B - From the West and North West of Wales (http://maps.google.com/maps?f=d&source=s_d&saddr=lloyney&daddr=newtown&geocode=&hl=en&mra=ls&sll=52.3607,-3.08097&sspn=0.07789,0.194321&ie=UTF8&ll=52.44451,-3.22827&spn=0.621936,1.554565&z=10) - Make sure you use Newtown as the GPS destination. Then take the A483 to Dolfor and then take the B4355 Knighton road to get to Lloyney (13.8 miles)

From Dover or South East of England (http://maps.google.com/maps?f=d&source=s_d&saddr=dover&daddr=51.37178,-0.604248+to:M4+to:lloyney&geocode=%3B%3BFZA8EgMdcDHm_w%3B&hl=en&mra=dpe&mrcr=0&mrsp=1&sz=8&via=1,2&sll=51.73989,-0.89853&sspn=2.527336,6.218262&ie=UTF8&z=8) - Use Swindon as a waypoint to avoid going all the way to Birmingham - then use route A above (took me 4 hours last week, not the 5 google maps suggests)

Hello to your all. We have also heard of this through the CW Motorcycle Rider Group . Great Idea

As those who have been involved from the start of this Treffen know, this is a very informal, do-it-yourself type event. From similar events, I have found just chatting to fellow LTers the best bit. The activities are just the catalyst.

However, as some people are turning up for parts of the weekend and not others, we need to try to ensure they know where most people will be at any particular time. Based on the registration forms returned to me, I can gleen the following plans and the following gaps. Note: this is very provisional and just my guesswork.

Arrivals;
Most people will be arriving from Thursday to Friday evening.

Friday Evening Meal;
Roast Carvery (turn up and eat what's there) at Lloyney Inn in the evening. (?Time A? When you are hungry? Pub will just need to know a 'from' and 'to' time for food)
Stay down the pub after or up to my place for a quieter 'drink your own' till late.

Saturday ride out (http://maps.google.com/maps?f=d&source=s_d&saddr=Lloyney,+Knighton,+Powys,+United+Kingdom&daddr=B4518+to:Unknown+road+to:Unknown+road+to:B4346%2FHeol+Y+Wig+to:A483%2FDolfor+Rd+to:52.375914,-3.111191&geocode=FVcxHwMd-4fQ_w%3BFSToHQMdgh3K_w%3BFWAaHgMdwK7I_w%3BFaThHgMdYKLG_w%3BFSrMHwMdYKLB_w%3BFacWIQMd7lHN_w%3B&hl=en&mra=dme&mrcr=0&mrsp=6&sz=13&via=1,2,3,4,5&sll=52.383773,-3.133507&sspn=0.074811,0.194321&ie=UTF8&ll=52.376857,-3.444214&spn=0.598575,1.554565&z=10)
Set off from Lloyney AM to give time for 3 stops on the way to Aberystwyth for lunch (one stop at Elan Valley Visitors center - cuppa and make sure everyone is on route (15 min?), one at one of the dams (if parking permits - 5 min?) and one at abandoned Welsh mining village 15min?). I will do the route again to see how long this takes.

Lunch;
Park up on Aberystwyth sea frount. Plenty of places to eat in Aberystwyth. (suggest you get any beers you want to for the evening as well).
Meet up after ?Time B? on Aberystwyth sea frount and make way back to Lloyney.

BBQ;
BBQ at mine in the evening - Hiltons department there (I will get any BBQ food Hilton suggests and we can split the bill between however many are there).

Route looks great. Not too long, and give folks the chance to have a look around if they want. Looking forward to it already.

offer still stands to deliver large Gazebo 9mtr x 3mtr (with sides) and could probably run to a few extra folding chairs if you want. Might be worth finding out if any local farmers can supply a dozen or so bails of hay/straw, as these make great seats, and the hay/straw can then be used in compost heaps after, or just spread over the field to naturally decay.

You're only about an hour from me, and having the option of cover might be good given this country's unpredictable weather.

Bear-KLT

First I would like to thank c00k1e for his time, thought and effort he has put into this “very informal event”
and I know he is keeping notes from information that members have posted on this forums to have some idea as to who’s coming from where, when, where staying etc;

We will be arriving Friday day, time tbc.
Will be camping at c00k1es, (or in his greenhouse!!, depending on whether?)

Evening Carvery at the Lloyney and back to c00k1es for a “quieter” drink for me.

Saturday Ride Out. we have previously rode this route with c00k1e, and can’t wait to ride again,
It will take less than 2 hrs, not inc. stops, at very easy pace, and really shows off some beautiful and interesting welsh countryside,

Aberystwyth is a beautiful welsh seaside town, with some very interesting things to see there.

Route back to Lloyney, ‘A’ roads, via Newtown, takes about 90 minutes

Saturday BBQ. YES...Put our name down..me and the wife.

Question?
1; Should this have been a new thread?
2; Meeting place For Ride out ? Can the Lloyney car park accommodate all the bikes together for some photos and a chat before the ride?
3; Any homemade Tagliatelle on the menu saturday night? Mmmm!

SEE YOU ALL THERE....

c00k1e
Jun 2nd, 2009, 4:20 am
I think we best stick to this thread - the Euro section is a bit chocka with this treffen as it is.
So how long to explore Aberystwyth? 1 hour is time to eat, but 3 hours would be able to look at the funicular railway, (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Aberystwyth_Cliff_Railway) castle (http://www.qype.co.uk/place/469414-Aberystwyth-Castle-Aberystwyth)and camera obscura (http://www.aberystwythcliffrailway.co.uk/camera_obscura.htm), do you want to be doing all this in leathers on a HOT day though?

We could just say "meet up back in Lloyney when you want and stay as long as you want in Aberystwyth"

Rockdoc
Jun 2nd, 2009, 4:49 am
I don't like riding in crocodiles but I'd be happy to ride the route at my own pace in both directions and join up at the end, if not also touching base at the stops. For anti-social so-and-sos like me, can I ask that times are given for when the group will arrive at Aberystwyth and the other stops and, preferably, where we'll park in Aberystwyth? Parking twenty-odd LTs in one place would be quite a sight and would be a real photo opportunity both for ourselves and the local paper if we want to go that way.

Keith

I think the meet back up at Lloyney would be the best option then you can drive at your own pace and meet up again for a social when you get back. I would hate to think I was holding someone up because I was a bit late back from something and kept everyone waiting.

c00k1e
Jun 2nd, 2009, 5:56 am
Aberystwyth has great parking on the sea front. First ones there bag an empty spot. Probably room for over 100 bikes.
If we left Lloyney at about 10, we would be at the Elan visitor centre for X (I will fill the X's in if I get to ride it this evening)
Dam stop X min after leaving visitors center, abandoned village X min after dam stop. Aberystwyth from aprox X to X

That would be perfect, Cookie. Even if people want to ride in the convoy, having some idea of the time needed to reach any given stop is a good way to stop them trying to blat along unfamiliar roads to catch up with the tail if they get separated, which is bound to happen.

If memory serves me well, there are just 5 turns to get to Aberystwyth and they are all at T-junctions. So will give out simple RRRLL instructions on the day. Don't want anyone thinking they are pressurised into any dangerous manoeuvre to keep up. The roads here can be very empty, but get behind a car at the wrong spot and the bikes that have passed it will be long gone before a safe passing place appears. So got to make sure everyone is confident with the route. I looked at the 'drop someone off at junctions' idea, but there just isn't anywhere safe to leave someone at many of the junctions.

I think a good idea would be for everyone to “restrain themselves” for the first part of the run to Aberystwyth, I don’t mind staying with Rockdoc at his pace, he can ride up the front,
I know there are problems with junctions, roundabouts, red lights to name but some, If you keep in the order you leave Lloyney and no unnecessary overtaking the bike in front,
we should all stay close together within a few minutes or so between the stops.
It’s about looking good

We ride the BMW flagship, and never in its UK history, to my knowledge, has so many LT owners been together in the UK.

Then on the return, each to their own route and pace.
I for one may take a more scenic less direct route back to Lloyney.

I have some experience in run’s out, priority is safety.
Slower riders up front to set pace,
quicker riders at the back, they have more ability to play catch up,
no overtaking the bike in front,
If you feel these guidelines are unacceptable for the first part of the route, please PM me to discuss your views.

One of the frequent problems that I've found in convoys is getting the rider at the font to go slowly enough to allow the tail to stay in touch. 50mph at the front can easily end up being 70mph at the back if there are a lot of bikes. Bear's suggestion for organising the outward section is a good one, whoever leads the run, and if we have a decent length of stop to allow everyone to catch up each time we shouldn't have any trouble. Cookie says that the junctions don't allow the drop-off system so the chances are high that the group will be split. If there aren't many junctions to worry about that's all the better.

I am really looking forward to this get-together! :)

Hopefully we won't encounter traffic, but if we do on the first section, some people will find themselves behind a car for ages - don't get tempted to overtake it unless the road is 100% clear.
Remember this is NOT an organised ride out - we are not insured for one. People are meeting up at places as and when they want to.

As for looking good Bear - I think I may put on my pink race suit - you won't want to be seen riding near me then!! ;-)

Yes Keith, you’ve hit the nail on the head. It will not be a “convoy” as such, but moving from A to B, then B to C, and so on.

Don't bank on it... :)
I thought you would come up with something different this time?

Lloyney Inn car park is gravely, but not deep. If we don't like the look of it on the day we can use a car park in Knighton, which may not be a bad idea as it is by the only fuel stop on the route.

Another anti social type here who tries to keep away from convoys. Just let me know what time to arrive in aberwhatsit and we will meet you there.
Miss to many things riding in a group, but the whole event looks great.
Thanks for all the hard work cOOkie

Yep - just heard of one http://www.belmontcottage.com/

Try to get in with the Castle Inn people and they may be able to wrangle you a lift to Lloyney - it is just under a mile from Lloyney
