Booked a ferry crossing last year for June this year (Dover-Calais).
A mate of mine has just tried to book the same crossing and it is going to cost him double the cost of mine (at least Dick Turpin wore a mask).
Has anybody just arrived at terminal on the day to buy a crossing ,if so how did the cost compare?

I've just turned up but no 'last minute' deals were available - you'll pay full list price. The channel ferry companies (and Eurotunnel) had things nicely stitched up before SpeedFerries (http://www.speedferries.com/) came along. They used to fly the Jolly Roger, which I thought was quite appropriate! :) The only problem seems to be availability, since they sell out fast, but I made a test booking for you just to check (without completing the final confirmation stage obviously), and this was still available (not Calais though):

Departure Route Arrival
16.6.2006 14:10 Dover / Boulogne 16.6.2006 16:00
1.7.2006 13:25 Boulogne / Dover 1.7.2006 13:15Price so far: £ 50.00 (one passenger)

Actually, I see they have "Fight the Pirates!" painted on the side of their vessels. The Danish founder of SpeedFerries (Curt Stavis) obviously isn't aware of the proud British tradition :) of (officially sanctioned) pirating against the superpower of the day, in the Elizabethan era.
