Randy Ferras had a great idea to invite us to meet in his neck of the woods. I am glad to help him put this together.

With the help of some of our Canadian members we are happy to announce our first "Ride to Jasper (http://www.bmwlt.com/rides/jasper)". If you've never been to the Rockies in Alberta, you have missed one of the most spectacular areas to ride in North America. If you have been before, we know you want to return. Banff and Jasper are two picturesque mountain towns, bookending the Icefields Parkway. This highway heading north from Lake Louise, through Banff and Jasper National Parks to the town of Jasper, covers about 150 miles of majestic mountains, shimmering rivers, turquoise lakes and abundant wildlife.

This is not a rally, there are no tickets to buy. Just make your reservations, plan your route and get together with some friends in one of the most beautiful motorcycle destinations in the world. While this ride is being promoted through BMWLT.com, we don't care what you ride, all makes and models are equally welcome. This is an opportunity to see some of the best the Canadian Rockies have to offer, on two wheels as it was meant to be.

The destination for this ride is the beautiful Fairmont Jasper Park Lodge, in Jasper, AB, Canada. This beautiful property, at the north end of the stunning Icefields Parkway, overlooking Lac Beauvert really puts the Luxury in Luxury Touring. With abundant dining, beautiful rooms and impeccable service, this is a true resort location.

We are planning this gathering on a Tuesday through Friday format. We have planned a group dinner on Friday. You can sign up for that dinner on our activities page (http://www.bmwlt.com/rides/jasper/group_activities.html). Be sure and check that page as we get closer to see if we plan any other meals or activities. Beyond that we hope that many of you will make plans with new friends or old for day trips to some of the sights in the areas. Many of the recommendations (http://www.bmwlt.com/rides/jasper/recommendations.html) we have listed are too far for a day ride from Jasper, but deserve consideration on your way to Jasper or on your way home. For day trips from Jasper, check our rides page (http://www.bmwlt.com/rides/jasper/rides.html).

Be sure and check the rides page (http://www.bmwlt.com/rides) for all of the great rides planned for and by our community.

I want to thank Randy Prade for all the assistance and hard work he has put into building the web page for our First Ride to Jasper. As Randy stated you can find all the information on the hotel, rides, local attraction and what the Ride to Jasper is all about........just getting together in one of the best riding areas in the Country.

If anyone wants more information, has questions or anything that I can help with do not hesitate to e-mail me or call me directly. We are really looking forward to having as many of our American friends and follow Canadians join us for this ride.

Keep an eye on the website as I am going to try to provide a few more travel routes for Randy to post on the website.

So join us if you can!

Some Great Door Prizes
One of our very generous members, Roy Jorawsky has donated some great door prizes for the Ride to Jasper. We will likely draw for them at the Friday night dinner. So what are they, 1) a brand new baehr K1200LT Communication kit which plugs directly into the LT wiring, (less the headset speakers), 2) A brand new Dunlop Rear 160/70B17 -79V Reinforced tire and 3) A slightly used Black backup Backrest for the LT.
So if you do not want to come for the great riding you may want to come for the chance to win a great door prize!
Thanks for the generous donation Roy.

Even though we still have a couple of feet of snow on the ground summer is coming and we are trying to get an idea of how many people will be actually coming to the Ride to Jasper in June. I need to give the hotel a better idea of how many rooms they need to hold for us. The rates on the hotel and dinner Friday night are good until April 25th. So if you are planning on coming this June please get your rooms booked or e-mail me. The website is www.bmwlt.com/rides/jasper/ .

Ride to stimulate the economy!

Some good news for anyone wanting to attend the Jasper Ride in June, I have secured an even lower basic room rate! The Fairmont Room rate has been lowered to $179.00 (CND) per night from $229.00 per night and if you are add in the present currency exchange for our US friends it works out to another 15% discount on top of that! So if you were on the fence about coming to ride in the Canadian Rockies you now have no excuses not to come.

Also do not forget about our great door prizes!

If you have any further questions just e-mail myself or give me a call.

See you in June.

There is still plenty of room at the hotel if anyone is still thinking of making last minute travel plans and coming on The Ride to Jasper. Looking at the long range weather forecast it is suppose to be a nice mostly sunny week with temperatures around the 70 degree range. So make that last minute decision for a ride in the Canadian Rockies.

Hi Mike

Glad to here you and Jan are coming. I do not have a final number yet but it looks like it is going to be a small group. I will have a package for you when you check in at the front desk. It will have maps, local information, day ride suggestions and my contact information. If you are arriving Tuesday evening we will be meeting in the main lobby/lounge area between 6 and 8:00PM on Tuesday just for a meet and greet. If you do need anything else you can contact me at (403) 804-0077 my cell phone number.

Take care and look forward to seeing you there.

We had a great time on the trip, despite (or because of) the smaller numbers. I hope we will be able to put together another for 2010. Randy Ferras and I will begin conspiring again soon.

The Fairmont was simply wonderful, from the room to the view to the food. I cannot think when we had such a relaxing vacation. We were so content with our stay at the hotel that we really didn't ride as much as usual.

We went through Glacier and Yellowstone on the way home. We did get some pictures along the way, but mostly stored them in our minds eye. The bikes were flawless.
