What better way to start the riding season than to attend the 6th Annual Red River Roundup. Well, maybe it's the 7th. Who's countin'? Anyway, this years' Roundup is Thursday May 14 through Sunday May 17th. If you haven't been to this area, there are many great roads and many great restaurants in the area. Not to mention some of our own cookin'. If you haven't had one of Rango's original onion burgers, now's the time to experience it. Okay, so we Texans brag a bit, but I'm tellin' ya right now you're gonna want seconds! We'll also feature Ken Goode's BBQ Brisket with all the trimmin's on Saturday night. We'll make sure you don't go away hungry. Basically, we're talkin' about a four day Ride to Eat. This isn't a rally. There's no registration fee. Come and meet some new friends as well as gather with folks you've known for quite a while.
The host hotel for the event will be the same as in past years,The Riverside, located within walking distance of most everything in Red River. Most all of the rooms feature a living room and kitchen equipped with stoves, refrigerators, etc. The parking lot is paved and level, with parking just outside your room. Many rooms have a porch and chairs as well. They accept all major credit cards.
The website for the Riverside is at www.redriver-nm.com (http://www.redriver-nm.com). Their toll-free number for reservations is 1-800-432-9999. Tell them you want to make reservations for the Red River Roundup. For those of you unfamiliar with Red River, it's a small town located in northwestern NM in the Sangre de Cristo mountains, the southernmost range of the Rocky mountains.
Red River is located on the Enchanted Circle, which traverses Carson National Forest and runs through Eagle Nest, and Taos, NM. The scenery is incredible. The roads are paved and in good shape, with many good twisties, especially on the south side of the Enchanted Circle. There are many other good roads in the area that make for enjoyable day trips. People have ridden to Wolf Creek Pass and other Southern Colorado locations during this RTE.
Taos, located about 30 miles from Red River, offers a variety of both excellent dining and shopping experiences. Other attractions in the area include several wineries and the Rio Grande Gorge.
If you have any questions, contact me at rspringer@debruce.com or send me a pm.

I've only had an LT less than 9 mos. and I'm probably in over my head but youy only live once. I'm look eagerly for the weekend, I'm a good oaf, if there's anytthing I can do to help please don't hesitate to ask. thanks, page

Oh well, maybe next year. My dearly beloved has put up with me for 30 years in May. She's insisted we celebrate by going to Alaska aboard a cruise ship. What's a wise man to do? :D

I know I don't have to say this but, "Y'all have fun now, ya' hear!"

It's gonna be kind of sad without Liz. We'll all have to drink a glass or two in her memory. I think she'd like that.

Deb said," It's gonna be kind of sad without Liz. We'll all have to drink a glass or two in her memory. I think she'd like that."

I agree. She really added a lot to the gathering and will be missed greatly. She and I talked a couple of weeks ago and we discussed concocting a special drink for Red River. We never got around to the details of just what the ingredients would be and she left the conversation with "Well, if we don't come up with something, we can always shoot tequila!" She was gonna bring a couple of bottles of wine from the Alfred Eames Winery in Paonia. I know the folks at Paonia are going to do something in her memory this year. We'll figure out something to honor her memory in Red River as well.

Add my name to the list of attendees.

Just checked the weather prediction. It will be cool and rainy. It reminds me of the saying, "BMW Riders never admit pain."

The weather is very dynamic and it is way too early to predict what will actually be happening next week, but according to accuweather as of this morning mid 70s and sunny every day - looks like a great forecast.

Additions & Update- The guys at the Riverside Lodge called and said they are filling up, so if you haven't made reservations with them, you should do so. If it fills up there are other places to stay, but it's a lot more fun right there!

Thanks to all who showed up. We had another good year. I just visited with one of my friends that attended the Memorial Day Rally over at Red River. He said it rained all day Friday and Saturday, so they didn't do any day trips. He said the sun came out long enough on Sunday for them to take their jackets off, but not long enough to ride. I guess the New Mexico weather gods look favorably upon the BMW crowd.
