I bought a '99 K1200lt. It has the complete sound system, factory, I was led to believe. I bought J&M headsets and cables. I get no sound in the headsets. CB sound comes through the mic. Intercom doesn't work either. I had it checked out by the dealer and they didn't have a clue but did offer a guess. The schematics from the dealer do not match the wiring of the '99. Is there anyone out there that can help? Also, the cable numbers do not match the headsets, but the dealer stated the only diff is the numbers from year to year.

If it is a 1999, you most probably have the BC-1 system unless it was a later add on. Then you could have the BC-2 or BMW CommSystem (some call it BC-3 but that's not correct) made by J&M for BMW. You could have mismatched headsets to the system you have on board.
Post a picture of the unit in the oddments box if possible.

probably got 6 pin cord and headsets instead of 5 pin which is what a 99 model would use Just guessing

The headsets are J&M for the '99. As I bought this fabulous machine used, I have no way of knowing if it is a BC-1 or a BC-2. Both headsets and cables are 6-pin. I have had it apart (a learning experience, I might add) several times and have found some puzzling things. Therefore a good schematic for the '99 K1200LT would be of great help or some one who could point me into the right direction, such as, if this happens then this is the possible cause, and so on. I'm not asking for much am I? But, since the dealers are stumped, I have to get what info I can from elsewhere. OH YES, if there are 66 chapters in the repair manual, why do we get info on only about 22?

There are no good schematics for the original BC intercom systems. They were made by a German company that is now out of business, so there's little help there, or from BMW.
But if you can post a pic of the unit (sitting in the oddments box just above the radio/cassette player) than we can identify the unit. That's the first step, then we can sort through the info gathered by various members of this board over the years and see what kind of help we can give.

Also, where are you located?

I am in the same situation. But, in my case, I did not receive any headsets/cords with my bike and so, I am totally at a loss and trying to find the appropriate hardware to start using it.
Here is the picture from my bike. I also ride a 99 K1200LT and this system came installed on the bike. BTW, I am also looking for the approprate user manual for this comm system.

The pics from 'unleashd' could have been from mine, down to the CB unit. I have been having "issues" posting pics to the thread, so I will try again. His pic of the six pin connector is the same also.

OK - We have a 99 LT with 118,000 miles and are still running sucessfully the original BC1. We have had BOTH types of headsets working through it. The original had a one piece cable and the newer ones have a two piece ( 8 pin at the helmet If I recall correctly) with the lower cable purchased from BMW. Back then J&M was not allowed to sell the BMW lower cable. I have not looked at there site lately.
Is there someone near you that could plug there BMW helmet system into your bike to see if it is the intercom or the headset? The BMW dealers used to have a "test" headset that they could use without a helmet to test the system. I'll see if I can find the pinout that used to be posted in the early days for the headset wiring.

It been a while since I could read this thread. For Unleashd, the J&M part numbers for the head sets and cords are:
Headset-FC 99 99 0 000 033,
OF-99 99 0000 034,
shorty-99 99 0 000 035;
Driver cord-99 99 0 000027,
Passenger cord-99 99 0 000 028
Ive talked with several technician's about the cords. Some say there are differences in the cords of later years, one said the only change is the part number. So, pick the answer you like. Mine don't get sound so I don't know either way.
To SteveK1200LT. MUCH Thanks for the info and schematics, I'll try to make some sense from them. Let you know how it turns out.
