My employees complained that I had an odor of fuel when I went to work today. When I got home My boot and pant leg was wet with fuel.
I took the right side of the tupperware off. I started the bike and was sprayed with fuel from the main fuel line. The line broke completely when I tried to disconnect and reconnect it.
(see attached photo)
It may only be a coinsidance, but this happened right after I started using octane booster. Just a 3rd of a bottle.
Two questions:
Could the Octane booster have compromised the fuel line?
Can I purchase connectors and fix this myself?

Yes you can fix yourself

You can fix yourself; it had nothing to do with octane booster. The OEM plastic quick couplers are ticking time bombs (e.g., CRAP). Get stainless steel ones - they're only a few bucks more.

Welcome to the broken quick-disconnect club. Replace the male half with a metal fitting and you're done. Mine blew out 150 miles from home. You can do a temporary fix with a 5/16 double brass barb and two hose clamps.

Use the smooth fuel injection type 5/16 hose clamps. They won't cut into the hose like worm clamps will. Plus they are rated for the high pressure.

Thanks, Michael.
I also read the old link info.
Will I be required to cut off the old clamps?
They look like they were attached with a crimper.

I had to cut mine off with a set of Dikes.
I replaced mine with the barbed fitting. Take heed of Dave's recommendation to purchase the fuel injector clamps. They don't have the open area (where the worm gear meshes) as a typical hose clamp.
Don't ride it anymore until fixed!

I have a new set sitting on my desk waiting to be installed soon. I got them from SmallParts.com
I ordered 2:
Brass Single Shut-Off Quick Connector 5/16" Barb, .63"OD,2.55"L Coupler, 1.26"L Plug w/Buna-N Seal
$10.10 each or $20.20 for the set and $7.59 shipping for a total of $27.79
I think the part number is (**D-3**) B0015HQ6V4 QCB-05-01
The package shows the part number as QCB-05-01. The other numbers are from the invoice.

I tried to cut mine off, and broke the dang cutter. I ended up prying them open with a small screw driver and then a bigger one, then was able to pull the old one out. (Also drew blood when it slipped). Don't do it my bloody way. :D
I went to Advanced auto parts and got some fuel line clamps (no slots in the bands to cut the line) to secure the new fittings.

I sure like the looks of dmatson's fittings. If you don't want to go that route, I have a spare set of fuel lines for an '03 LT. PM me if you want them.

I'd also suggest documenting the failure with the NHTSA. Fuel leaks are a safety issue and if there are enough documented with NHTSA (or Transport Canada), it may prompt a formal recall - as has happened with many autos.

And a variation of dmatson's. I used ones with an elbow. You can also just see the fuel injection clamp in the right. I used them on every connection I got too, including all in the fuel filter lines in the gas tank.
Great product for sure!

Double Shut-Off???OK, I'm a little slow. I just took it out of the package and blew into it. Pulled them apart and blew into the separate pieces. Looks like I need to order another one with a double shut-off.:o

It looks like you didn't reverse them to avoid a misconnection. Yes, I do see the green and pink marks, but...

These are a couple of pics of my metal disconnects with fuel injection type clamps. Ordered from Omega p/n FT-LCD220-05 and FT-LCD170-05

Every connector, bolt, and screw got color coded with a paint pen. I have no need to reverse them as the color coding works really well and is easy to see.

Wow, I like those clamps. I think I used the slotted hose clamps when I did the metal QDs last time. I'm gonna change 'em out so I won't have this discussion hence!! Thanks for sharing the pics and the part #s.
