Can anyone tell me what this connector is for? I had to take off the stingray to route an audio cable from my Garmin 2820 to the aux in on the comm. System. I assumed this connector went to somewhere on the front of the stingray but could not find a mate to it. Everything, radio, intercom, and GPS seem to be working fine. FYI – I have a 05LT with the VCII Comm System. When I initially purchased the bike in 05 I had the dealer install a Dice system to connect my IPOD to the comm. System. Eventually the Dice system went caput and was causing the radio to short out so the dealer disconnected it during a warranty service.
I had some time off during the holidays and decided to do some work on my on. Other then fluid changes, I have always had adult supervision by Gilles or Elton before attempting to remove all the tupperware. This time I managed to change the air, fuel filters, & spark plugs by myself and put everything back together with only two extra screws and this connector. Any ideas on what it could be to? Sorry about the poor quality pics.

It must be something associated with the comm system as my 05 does not have that connector (no factory comm). Maybe a PTT for the passenger? That connector and wire combo does not show up on the schematics either so I think that is comm related. BMW did not include the available comm systems in the CD schematic set that covers all bikes years 94 to 06.

Thats what I thought also as you can see I have a push to talk for the Voice II but it was removed (the Voice II). I will try to find my PTT button and see if thats it. Here is the pic, I still have this and the headsets.

Thanks that look exactly like the connector. I do have the push to talk for my VCII but havent used it inquite a while. I haven't used my FRS in ages. Now - the question is where does it plug into so the next time I take the stingray off I can reconnect.

I also did the same service on my 05LT over the holidays. I tagged each connection before removal. The same plug was unused on my bike as well.

In the pic I posted of the bottom of the stingray there is a connector with the same color wires and the look of the female plug that the PTT connector would mate to, my guess is that is where it goes. Here is another angle of that pic. The connector is the one with the green wire. I just checked another pic of the bottom of the stingray after BMW removed my Voice system and that connector is gone so thats got to be it.

Does anyone know if this connector is available on a 2006LT? I am trying to install a passenger PTT switch and could use some suggestions.

Just checked some pictures I took of my strip down last winter & I have the same plug. So if you have the V.O.I.C.E. II system, then I would say that you should have the plug also.

Greta Thanks. Now if I could only locate a passenger PTT switch. I can't seem to find one online.

I am trying to install a passenger PTT switch and could use some suggestions. My '07 had the PTT wires (with 1/8 inch female spade connectors) taped to the left handlebar underneath the left handlebar cover cover. It was an easy install. Maybe yours does too. The Voice II on my bike was installed at the factory, not by the dealer.

Greta Thanks. Now if I could only locate a passenger PTT switch. I can't seem to find one online. The PTT kit that I bought had two switches in the bag, one for the left handlebar with mounting hardware, the other apparently intended for the passenger. The only thing that the kit didn't provide was a rubber boot for the rider button which I was told was unavailable. I improvised and used a rubber boot from a Goldwing brake fluid reservoir banjo bolt. Attached are some pictures including the part number. Note that the PTT button and mount is is different than the one pictured in one of the above posts. I purchased my BMW parts from Chicago BMW.

Thanks for the responses. I have the rider PTT installed. What I am having trouble finding is the passenger PTT.

If you want OEM your own your own. But as it is a simple inline switch, the same as your house lights, you can get anything and make it work. any after market switch will fill the bill. such as http://www.topgearaccess.com/store/index.php/component-parts/1454.html
or you may want to check dealers that sell RT-P's they may have a gaggle of them laying around. Either way good luck. :D
