Hi everybody,

Just bought a 2006 LT - came with the VOICE II Comm system and pre-wiring for a NAV system. Now trying to understand next steps: GPS, MP3 stereo and cell phone -TO- helmet hook-up.

The old TomTom Rider2 GPS I’ve got doesn’t have an Audio Out. Its Bluetooth to the mono wireless headset. Works great with the GPS and cell phone, but no stereo and I presume no way to connect it to the Voice II Comm system. Guess I need a fresh start.

The posts round here recommend the Garmin 2820 GPS. Apparently works with the BMW NAV pre-wiring and mounting plate, has MP3 stereo playback, and there is an Audio Out jack that can be connected to the AUX input on the Comm unit. Great!

Couple problems based on other posts:
• The AUX input has highest priority (so I wouldn’t hear the GPS directions any more?)
• My cell phone has a USB connector… no Audio/Mic jack to plug into the PHONE connector on the VOICE II.

Anybody figured out how to this? Also, advice on wired helmet hetsets is also appreciated.

Thanks in advance! This site is really terriffic.

Don

You still hear the GPS instructions when you connect a 2820 AUX out to the Voice II AUX in.Tthe Garmin unit controls the priority. Music will fade out and back in when the GPS turn instructions are transmitted from the 2820.

I connect my bluetooth phone to the Voice II using a Motorola HF820 bluetooth speaker phone that has a 2.5mm jack that passes the cell phone microphone and speaker transmissions from the phone to the Voice II via a 2.5mm male to male "stereo" plug cord. There is a lot of information on this forum regarding cell phone connections using this methodology.

I use the BMW (J&M) headsets in my helmet. I also use the BMW lower cords.

Thanks for the info Jim.

If I've got this right, the connection diagrams for a Bluetooth Phone and Garmin 2820 is:

1) BT Phone - HF820 - 2.5 stereo male-to-male cord - Voice II Phone port
* HF820 is paired to the BT Phone
* Phone is set to auto answer
This would get you hands-free incoming calls directed to your wired helmet headset.

2) Garmin 2820 connects to existing pre-configured NAV II wiring.
This gives you mono GPS directions to your helmet headset over the GPS channel.

3) Garmin Audio Out - 3.5 to 2.5 male-to-male stereo cord - Voice II AUX port
This would get you MP3 stereo audio from the Garmin to your wired headset. If the GPS speaks, the music is muted. (Not sure if the GPS directions are coming thru the AUX port or the GPS port, but I guess it doesn't really mater).

Is that right?

Then I guess the remaining question is about dialing through the Garmin. There seems to be some confusion about this. Can you use the Garmin for dialing calls on your BT phone? If so, how is the pairing done (I'm assuming the same wired configuration as above)?

Thanks again
