After watching Charlie's video I went ahead and dismantled my final drive.Last season after 23,000 miles the ball cage wore out and I went ahead and replaced that ball bearing and seal .At that time I did not have the specs to check the preload so I put it back together with the factory shim.My 2000 LT was bought from a dealer that did all of the services and never did any work on the FD. Upon dismantling here is what I found after 6,000 mile this season there was a slight black dusting on the drain plug. After removing shims I measured the space in the gear box like Charlie did in his video and found out that the factory shim was a .700 mm. when it needed a .200 mm. shim and on top of that the dealer only 12 miles away had the shim in stock I needed.I'm not sure if that is a good sign or not So thanks again Charlie .The way I look at it is fix it yourself or let someone else screw it up.
