It would seem we are getting a cure for all the static and feedback issues with some of the Comm systems.
Bahre finally found what the proplem was with CB/GMRS radios having feedback while getting power from bikes 12V system.

A ground loop Isolator issue that they (Bahre) have built a power supply cable for. It is a solidstate Dc-Ac-Dc inverter/converter unit. :D

But has a major downside of being $280.00 !

*** So any of you electronics types have an idea where one might find a generic unit that might work ?

Thanks in advance.
Scott

I have an idea Scott, but I don't have the info to chase it down at the moment. The semiconductor machines I work on use high power RF (3KW @ 13.56 MHz), and we use opto-isolater relays to clean up various control signals. I've been wondering if one of these relays could be adapted for automotive use.

I'll have to find the part numbers and look up the specs to see if this is an option.

Scott, Guys,

Here's a cheaper way to do exactly the same thing as the Baehr cable. I tried it just before going on Christmas Holidays on a Baehr K1200LT intercom and a Uniden CB unit that had an uncurable ground loop problem. This fixed it completely and the cost was AUS $84:00 which is about US $64:00 plus postage costs. You may be able to source the same unit locally.

How it was done - I purchased a 12V DC-DC converter (2.1 amp) from -http://www.oceancontrols.com.au/power_supplies/dcdc_converters.htm and placed this plus two filtering capacitors in the power supply line to the CB. This completely isolates the CB from the Baehr Intercom (or any other intercom for that matter) and absolutely stops any ground loop problems. I have tried cheaper ways, some successfully, but complete isolation like this or the Baehr cable is the only sure answer.

result - no noise on the CB.
