Is it possible that there is a simple-to -install comm system for the 05 LT? I've never had one before, but then I've never had a bike that I ride as much as this LT. Looking for (in order) intercom, XM, Bike to Bike, CB, possibly a radar detector. I saw a Behr unit that is supposed to just "plug in". Any experiences? I really don't want to have to struggle through all of the noise elimination problems I keep reading about on this site. I am fairly mechanical in general but totally lost when it gets to the electronic stuff. I don't mind spending money for a unit that works well out of the box. Any input would be greatly appreciated. By the way, thanks to all that frequent this site. You provide answers faster than I can ask questions. Does having all that knowledge mean that everyone has to wear a really large helmet?

I recently installed a J&M CB that functions as a CB as well as an intercom and is capable of receiving input from my cell and my GPS (when I get one.) It pipes the music through the headset in my helmet, and can also just pipe in the CB communications, leaving the music playing through the bike speakers. I have minimal whine from the electrical system, and, in fact, I don't even hear the whine because I wear earplugs. They work great and the fidelity is quite acceptable. If you want XM, you might consider a separate XM receiver and pipe the music in through the CB. I like it and it was not nearly as expensive as the BMW or Baer comm system you mentioned. BTW, J&M makes the BMW CB that doesn't do all of the above. Here's the link: http://www.sierra-mc.com/proddetail.asp?prod=JM%2DJMCB2003%2DDU
I hope this helps you in your decision. PM me if you have any questions.

Hunter, I feel your pain. I too am researching what comm system (and helmet) to buy to support all my tech toys (without wiring up the space shuttle). I am surprised at the lack of technology innovation by BMW. Bluetooth has been out since 1999 and cars started including Bluetooth communication options in 2005 and cell phones in 2003.
My early research has found that most riders have the same one – three devices, yet BMW has not taken this into account for the LTs design.
I could be wrong, but it appears that J&M has the most complete solution that is out of the box. Of course I just read about the noise problem “whining”, thus I have to research if J&M addresses that issue.
My 2 cents
