Thanks everybody. My dad was a Christian, and we believe in eternal life. We are going to celebrate the commemoration of Jesus' birth with the faith that he will come again, and we will rise to meet our father in heaven at the last day.

We used a picture from the 80's in dad's obit. Attached is one from almost a year ago, on Jan 1, 2008, his 88th birthday.

John, very sorry about the loss of your father. You are in our prayers at this time. You know there are many that are here for you, whatever your needs may be. May you find comfort through this knowing that your dad is now with the Heavenly Father.

Please know that your family is in our prayers. What a difference Christ makes! And we both know that the sufferings of this present age are not even worthy to be compared with the glory that shall be revealed in us through Him. God bless brother.

Trying to explain what I was thinking when typing my earlier responce is not as important as apologizing for such a callous remark.
I pray and hope that this time is filled with warmth from friends and the best of memories.

John our prayers and best wishes go out to you and your family during this time of loss. Thank God your dad was a believer. We know where he is and this is the hope that we all have, that we will see our loved ones again. Blessings during the Christmas season.

John,

I see your Dad and mine both served in WW II. Like your Dad, mine had all the planning done. Even the menu for the social time after his memorial service! All paid in advance by Dad. He was also a man of faith, like you. My Dad served in the European campaign four years including earning his Silver Star for Gallantry in Action during the D Day invasion. I wrote the war department using his dog tag number and had reissues of all of his military awards. They do this FREE. I had them mounted in a frame using a WW II Army shirt as the background. He had forgotten half of his awards. I gave it to him for Christmas many years ago and really surpirsed him. Now this art is on the wall in my study. When I hear the young people now fuss about being gone to serve for a few months I remind them about the heroes of WW II and their many years of continuous service to protect FREEDOM.

You honor him well.

John, in reading the obituary, I can see that your father was a remarkable man; truly part of a special generation! I lost my father just over a year ago; my mother is still alive, so it has been hardest on her - as you know, it is toughest on those left behind.

My thoughts and prayers are with you and your family.
