First, the question.
Can the body take on an alkaline (or acidic) state?
Now the explanation.....
A woman that I work with has bought into the whole Kevin Trudeau scam hook, line, and sinker.
You know, this guy....

One of her conspiracy theories centers on the "fact" that cancer cannot exist in an alkaline environment. By cutting out all sugars and carbohydrates, your body becomes more alkaline, and your cancer goes into remission. Doctors all over the world know this, but the money is in the treatment, so "they" won't let that out.
I watched a woman (bald) come into our cubicle today and testify that her breast cancer was "disappearing from her body" because she has "converted her body to an alkaline state." She's convinced that's the reason and has refused any further Kemotherapy. I got the "I told you so" look, and there was a little gloating throughout the afternoon.
I think this guy Trudeau is a fucking scam artist (hope that is harsh enough) of the highest order. You may have seen his infomercial, he's pretty slick, very calculated in it's presentation. He makes a lot of insinuations about the FDA, FTC, and doctors in general. Says MD's are only trained in drugs and surgery, not health. The FTC (I believe) has sued him multiple times to get him to stop selling vitamins and supplements with unsubstantiated claims about their effectiveness. He eventually settled by paying a $2 million fine, and agreed to never again hawk vitamins.
Now he comes out with this book, promising to reveal all these natural remedies. Turns out, you have to sign up for his monthly newsletter for the really good stuff. Just give him your CC#, they'll deduct it automatically. What could be easier? You do care about your health don't you?
I'm regular, and have reproduced, but beyond that I haven't given too much deep thought to how the body functions. So I throw this out to the experts. What about this "body Ph" thing?
