First, the question.

Can the body take on an alkaline (or acidic) state?

Now the explanation.....

A woman that I work with has bought into the whole Kevin Trudeau scam hook, line, and sinker.

You know, this guy....

One of her conspiracy theories centers on the "fact" that cancer cannot exist in an alkaline environment. By cutting out all sugars and carbohydrates, your body becomes more alkaline, and your cancer goes into remission. Doctors all over the world know this, but the money is in the treatment, so "they" won't let that out.

I watched a woman (bald) come into our cubicle today and testify that her breast cancer was "disappearing from her body" because she has "converted her body to an alkaline state." She's convinced that's the reason and has refused any further Kemotherapy. I got the "I told you so" look, and there was a little gloating throughout the afternoon.

I think this guy Trudeau is a fucking scam artist (hope that is harsh enough) of the highest order. You may have seen his infomercial, he's pretty slick, very calculated in it's presentation. He makes a lot of insinuations about the FDA, FTC, and doctors in general. Says MD's are only trained in drugs and surgery, not health. The FTC (I believe) has sued him multiple times to get him to stop selling vitamins and supplements with unsubstantiated claims about their effectiveness. He eventually settled by paying a $2 million fine, and agreed to never again hawk vitamins.

Now he comes out with this book, promising to reveal all these natural remedies. Turns out, you have to sign up for his monthly newsletter for the really good stuff. Just give him your CC#, they'll deduct it automatically. What could be easier? You do care about your health don't you?

I'm regular, and have reproduced, but beyond that I haven't given too much deep thought to how the body functions. So I throw this out to the experts. What about this "body Ph" thing?

Time is the greatest tattletale. If this guy is 'full of it', you'll know sooner or later. And as long as you're not buying his stuff...who cares? Sounds to me like your coworker isn't going to be talked out of believing, no matter what you say. Besides...He can't be any more wrong about curing cancer than the current medical profession is, can he?

It is indeed the "practice" of medicine. On the other hand, I'd rather be alkaline than acidic. Pee on a Ph test strip first thang in the morning and you'll know which you are. Also, you don't have to buy his stuff to get alkaline.

My dear wife was a nurse pratitioner and tried every diet known to man, including a variation of the one in question in this thread. She died of ovarian cancer in 1997. Her oncologist was a dear friend of our family for over 30 years and I really do not think he would watch his friend die becasue of money. I hope you friend lives a long and happy life but somehow I doubt it.

Urine has a Ph, and I can see where that is affected by what you eat, but does that correlate directly to a Ph level of the body's tissue?

You take the reading first thang, or first pee, in the morning after the body has done it's nightly janitorial work. It's an excellent indicator of body Ph. Just by taking calcium/magnesium tabs, your Ph will lean towards alkaline purdy quickly.

I wouldn't do it after a night of drinking though, one drink purdy much shuts down the liver's over 500 functions as it metabolizes the alcohol.

Now, when my urine smells like coffee after a hard morning, I wonder what that indicates?:D

Well now! Acid was better in the movie Andromena Strain back in the '70's. Saved the wino who was on sterno and the baby cause it was crying, or something like that
