Have you ever snagged your keys and lost them under the stingrayOnce, but I was able to fish them out. There is a plate that covers most of the area under there, so they shouldn't go too far.

What's worse is leaving the keys on the inside of the trunk lid, closing the lid, then realizing that the latch was already locked. Fortunately (or not), the trunk is super easy to break into.

Left mine in the sode case, closed it - and it was locked.
Mrs had to drive out with the spare set - she was a VERY long way away.

I always carry a spare duct taped somewhere on the bike ( no, I am not saying where !) and a spare fob in the tool kit.

Meese,

When you say "break into", do you mean open as a good thief would or vandalise it ?.

Not the key but the cap for the little tool to tighten the NAVIII in place. Its there until the next service (I hope).

I keep a spare key in my boot and the security code programed in my phone so I hope not to get stuck if I lose my key.

Yup, twice. Both times in the dark. Had to use the spare in my wallet to unlock the handlebars and get the flashlight out of the oddments box. I now carry a little wire for fishing out from under the stingray.

Dave,

I was able to fish mine out as well. Also lost one of my fobs when the oddments box flew open at 75.

I tape one of my spares to the bike as well and usually keep one in my wallet.

How'd you get yours out??

Joe

I dropped mine twice and got them out both times with my fingers. Think I'll keep a wire nearby just in case though. Also keep spare key taped & zip tied to the frame.

Yup, I never go on any trip, bike or car, without a 2nd key. The BU BMW key is small and flat, it lives in my wallet, a 2nd car key is always in my left pocket.

Right pocket is always reserved for the 1st key!

Oh, and there are hidden ones of course... :D

Best lost key story I have is that on a day trip with our riding group, my key made it's way through a hole in my pocket of my air pants. After 45 minutes I found that it had slid into the lining of said pants. I was joined in stall of the restroom of the restaurant by a riding partner who came to check on my progress as I was holding up the group. He decided to assist in the extraction and in hind sight realized that we had throw out phrases like," hold it and I'll slide it up" and "that little thing is slippery" and "don't let go" as people came in and out of the restroom. I now have one in each pocket, one around my neck and one in my wallet.

When you say "break into", do you mean open as a good thief would or vandalise it?Well, you can't see any damage, but the trunk no longer locks closed. There are just these two little plastic pegs that hold the handle locked closed, and they're not very strong. Plus you have to rip the whole latch assembly apart to get to them, so I haven't bothered to fix it yet.

In that case I will keep a spare key handy !.
