With the help of several of our members I have been able to determine that REMUS makes an exaust system for our beloved LTs. Before I jump in, I wanted to know if anyone has the REMUS and if it distracts or bothers them on the ride. Mine is a 2009 (my 4th one) and I have never done this in the past. I am told that I can get it with a silencer that is removeable. :D

Barry,

My 05 came with the Remus (and Rhinewest chip).

I liked the throaty sound, but it began to be a bit much for me. I read where some had put a 1" OD pipe in to the end to further quiet the exhaust and it worked great for me!

I never experienced the OEM (since mine came with Remus), but, you'll lose the catalytic converter as part of the install. When I remove the rear wheel, the exhaust comes out easy.

I've heard the standard exhaust and Remus, and I would recommend the Remus!

Good Luck,

Joe

I had a bike with OEM exhaust and now have one with the Remus and chip and it was too loud for me. I have put a pipe in the end to help quiet it but wish I had made it an inch or two longer. I ride with guys who have GW and a Victory vision and I am still the loudest.

My wife doesn't like it as much either. The pipe helped but she likes the stock sound better. You really notice it in confined areas, or under bridges, or in town at stops and round tall buildings. One the highway I notice it if I think about it now, but it was worse at the beginning.

I would say if you like a quiet ride then I would stay with stock, if you like noise then go for it.

I've had the Remus Header/Can and Rhine-West Chip in my 2002 since 2002 and still love it.

I too installed the short tube to cut some of the resonance.
The power/torque boost was the goal and the nice low roar of a WWII Fighter was a plus for me.

110,000 miles later, I would do it again.

I have a 2008 LT with the Remus can and headers. Slightly more horsepower and quicker than with the stock muffler. And last but not least, what a sweet sound. Let me say that again, What a sweet sound

Is it worth it to go with just the chip and not the exhaust. I had loud pipes on my old cruiser and really enjoy the quiet. Would like "just a bit more" from the throttle too!

I believe they do make a chip for the stock exhaust. So it may be worth it then.

My Remus Header/Pipe does not equal "loud pipes" at all.

I've got the name of a good audiologist.///
I like the sound of a well tuned exhaust but really appreciate a quiet ride. Especially long rides where I want to listen to the tunes or the pillion passenger. Now if I had a K12S and it was just me, then that's a different tune.

Hi BROOP,
I have an 09 as well and would like to try this. I ride with alot of Harley and Kawasaki riders with loud pipes and I would like a deeper sound. Also, I hear it improves on performance.

Please let me know if you do this and how you like the change.

My 2000 had a Remus muffler on it when I purchased it on ebay. The original owner also gave me the original muffler. After my first year or so of riding I replaced the Remus with the original. It is much quieter and I like that. The Remus had an annoying resonance in rpm ranges that we commonly used. It might be that the Remus gave me a few more MPH top end, not sure about that, but maybe.

The noise issue has already been addressed so I'll leave that alone.

Another consideration is aesthetics. I think it looks way too 'aftermarket' (not quite 'ghetto' though), the stock blends in better.

And then there's performance. Maybe it'll get you a little more HP but I don't think the other two downsides justify it. Did you buy the LT for a luxury ride or to race?

Just my opinion.

Mine looks stock, I used the Chrome Heat Shield from the Stock pipe.

The last time I looked at Remus mufflers they had 7 different types. They had three types of material and different Db levels depending on what you wanted.

Captaine,

I ordered the pipe with the Remus Revolution titanium pipe, it is fairly new and is the quietest of the line. It does have a removeable baffle. I will post as soon as I have it installed and a few highway miles. ( I live in Dallas so lots of highway miles) I beieve it will arrive on Monday or Tuesday per Jerry at Pirates Lair. I will do the install as soon as it arrives.

Thanks to all who offered  information

I love to race luxuriously, the Remus with the pipe mod has worked great on my 05'.
