In more than 25 years of riding motorcycles and owning 6 motorcycles I never dropped one but this Sunday, during a half a day trip with few friends I dropped the big lady twice, one on each side!!!
The first time was when we stopped for lunch and I put the LT on its central stand on a slight slope. I was careful to have the front of the bike facing the top of the slope. I tried to take it out of the central stand as I usually do by seating on it and pushing. Because of the slope that did not work. So I stepped down and tried pushing on it while being on the left side of the bike and here it went. Once it started tipping over there was nothing I could have done to prevent it. Then later in the afternoon a pickup truck braked really hard in front of me at stop sign. I was going very slow (10mph) and about to stop behind the truck but that surprised me. To avoid hitting the truck I went to the right side of the road which was uneven and here I go again, this time it tipped over on the right side. I have been riding my LT for 5 months now and after 4000miles put on it I was really confident that I would never drop the big lady. :( Not much damage on the bike, the side bumpers worked very well but my pride was hit pretty bad yesterday. :o

Congrats!

I think she's laid down 4 times on me, never two times in one day ;)

I am much more methodical when I take her off the stand and disembark.

The tip over wings really do their job!

Welcome to the club. We know how it feels.

I thought for certain I wouldn't drop the present one as I dropped the 00 about 3 times. Of course, this time it was because I decided to do a u-turn on a country hiway with a very steep grade... in a hurry... stopped with bike vertical on a stepply graded road, trying to hurry and back up to complete the unsuccessful u-turn and whoila! Trapped the SO's leg- I thought for sure it was crushed. Turned out it was trapped in the groove (Thank God). That one cost me an "illegal maneuver" (or something like that) award since I insisted we call the paramedics and give the SO the all clear before we left... which meant we had to wait for the HP. VA doesn't play. Of course the nice occifer said he "didn't think we were the "reckless" type so he wasn't gonna give us a "reckless driving" award, too... then he of course had to give us the obligatory stories us of some of the carnage he's seen where mc's are involved. I'm sure he has seen it, and it is terrible. I told the SO she needs to ALWAYS carry her LE credentials... it mighta helped, but probly not. Wife was bruised, I felt stupid, but didn't even scuff the saddlebag chromed plastic because the grade. In the end it was another lesson learned.

Morale of the story, or what I learned from this... SLOW DOWN and NEVER be in a hurry or distracted while on this bike- that's what did it, a momentary lapse. I just got off the phone with a loved one and was distracted and in a hurry.

Again, welcome- now she's got battle scars. :D

Keep it symmetrical.

I can top yours though.

Pulled into my garage in between my HD and tool chest--perfect position. Put her into neutral, shut her off, made sure the parking lite wasn't on, and went to lean her on the side stand--she went right into my HD.

I forgot to put down the side stand!

Next time she went over, on the right side, into my Jeep--seems I forgot to retract the side stand before rolling her backwards out of my garage!

Nice and symmetrical!

Best from cold Tucson.
Bob

PS: first time I ordered plugs and valve cover gasket, I ordered two plugs and two valve cover gaskets--old habits die hard.

After the 2nd drop my Wife was standing on the side of the rode with her thumb out!! Smart Ass!! :D

I got my 1200LT last week and in a matter of days got my drop out of the way! Only I did it in the garage at home while putting it up the center stand. :brick:

And the day before I took it off the center stand and popped off a mirror when it hit the treadmill it was parked next to. That's how I found out how to put the mirrors back on at 6:45 am on the way to work!
