View Full Version : Question about new shocks

I'm thinking of replacing my shocks this winter and have a few questions.

1. Will this raise my ride height? With a 29" inseam, I don't want any more height.

2. If the answer above is yes, would a "low seat" offset the raise in ride height?

3. From past experience with a Gold Wing, the aftermarket shock allowed me to ride with NO PRELOAD dialed in when by myself. Would I have the same experience with this bike?

4. Lastly, I see that some or all are re-buildable. Is that something that NEEDS to be done every XX miles?

Thanks!

Hi Joe,

I changed to Öhlins shocks last winter. I installed them without doing any adjustments and the result was that bike sits higher. Now I ride the bike solo with the preload at "zero" setting.

If the bike height increase is a critical issue the (Öhlins) shocks can be adjusted lower during installation. Somebody else can comment on Wilbers...

As far as rebuilding is concerned...I suppose that they could last a lot of miles before needing a rebuild. There must be LT riders with longer experience who could give you more exact info.
