Charging Procedure

I came from the CANbus GT.
What is the right procedure for charging the LT with a battery tender?
Disconnect the battery and hook up OR just hook up with the bike cables attached?

I connect my LT to the Battery Tender Jr through the accessory socket down near the shifter. It's hot all the time unlike the socket on the top case. You will need a pigtail to connect the BT's SAE connector to a BMW plug.

I pop the seat and connect to the battery terminals.

I tossed a tender once because it never went from red to green when plugged into the socket--finally figured out the socket wasn't making good electrical contact.

On a CANbus you had to disconnect the battery terminals.
So, on the LT you leave everything connected, right ???

I mounted the pig tail that came with my Battery Tender across the battery terminals, so I only have to lift the seat and plug in the BT. It has worked great for two winters now, soon the third.

Leave it all connected. I just plug into the 12v input on either side of the bike.

About six or seven years ago (boy does time fly!) I went ahead and connected a BMW Powerlet plug to the pigtail that came with my Battery Tender. And I have been plugging it into the recepticle near the shifter ever since with no problems whatsoever! The BT works just as adverised: the red turns to flashing green & then to a steady green.

And to answer the original question, you do not need to disconnect anything on the LT when charging the battery.

I also use the pig tail, but ran it out the right side next to the side bag. It rests nicely in the channel on the front edge of the bag and when I need it, I just open the door to the saddlebag.
