I would like to know if anyone would be interested in showing me how to take the plastic off my LT. I need to do a 12K service soon and it already is due for an oil change. The dealer in my area closed and it was really expensive to have them do it anyway.
This forum has helped me in so many ways I can't count them all. So is any one up to teaching an old dog a new trick? It would be fun to get a few of the LT owners together.
Thanks

I would ride down too. Just get some paint pens and small baggies. Trust me it takes time coming off, but going on it is nice to just grab screws and feed them in the proper color holes.
Let me know.

I don't have any dates in mind. Most weekends in Oct. are OK. I am willing to host at my home but I do only have a one car garage. Also it would be nice to have someone there that has done this before.

Touch of Class in Phillipsburg closed the BMW part of his shop. Next closest dealer to me is about an hour or so away

I can join you guys except for the weekend of the 11 th. Good for about 3 hours.
BTW I have done just about everything to the LT. Just a time consuming process.
Steve the owner of TOC will continue to work on BMW bikes , he just won't sell them. He got fed up with the corporate bull.

I'm not surprised, I bought a bike from them (CLC) a few years ago I also owned a 1200 GS that I bought from Hermy's, I wanted to trade both in for an LT. They refused to even consider the deal since I bought the GS from Hermy's. So guess who I bought my LT from? If there's something you can't do yourself or you don't feel comfortable with I couldn't recommend Hermy's high enough, just 35 min west of you.

I am willing to help in any way I know how. Is there something particularly challenging you wish to do? Many of the 12K items are little more than a look. Some (like fluid changes) are more involved but the entire driveline (engine, trans, FD) are all easy to do.
For the later year LT's, I have not myself done brake or clutch bleeds (nor made or purchase any special tools to do this).
I have a shop and Clymer manuals.
What year LT?

Would any or all of you be able to make Oct. 12th. If it works let me know and I will try to have all the fluids and any special tools we may need. Or would someone have a better place to hold the session?

I noticed murray could not participate that weekend, and it would be important to have him there. Oct 5th would be good for me.

Here is maintenance schedule;
www.sayegh.org/bmw/maintenance.htm
Here is valve check and adjustment: (note: the RS & LT same procedure)
www.gunsmoke.com/scot/k12/valve_adjustment.html
4 qts. engine oil sae 20w50
1 k1200lt oil filter kit (includes o-ring for oil filter cover)
1qt. gear oil sae 90 api class GL5 (for trans & FD)
4 Bosch XR7 LDC spark plugs
1 Air Filter
1 Valve cover gasket
Special tool 14mm allen socket 1/2" drive (cut allen to 5/8" in length) I use an 18" breaking bar to get trans plug out.
That is the basic list. I would come but, I'll be at The Void 4 Rally October 10th, 11th, and 12th. And the first weekend in October is the BMWBMW Oktoberfest.

Alright we will try to do this on the 25th of Oct. Anyone who would like to come please e-mail me at lklass@rcn.com and I will give you a physical address and phone number to reach me. I hope Mr. Murray can come that day. He will be of a great help. Also I will let it up to him to pick a start time. I can provide coffee for those who wish to have it. How many more would be interested. Let's make it a fun and informative day.

Dan,
Keep in mind you may not be able to complete this project on a weekend. If the valves are out of spec. You have to pull the cams to determine correct bucket replacement size. So if this info is not determined by 2 PM Saturday you will not have time to hit the shop for parts.
It is also advisable to note all bucket specs for future valve service. If a valve is tight you know the current bucket size and replacement required w/o cam removal.
It would be a good idea to familiarize yourself with the shop manual. Also do you have the tools for the job ?

Dan-
I may be able to make the tech session this Saturday if the host would like some latecomers. Would you like to ride up there together?
I am not 100% in, but I will try my best to make it.
I live in Edison and seeing you are close enough and willing I thought I'd ask!
I am just coming to meet everyone.
Thanks,

Dave,
I live in Dillsburg, PA.
If the weather people are incorrect, would you like to meet up here in south central Pa and ride up together?
If it does rain and ridin' would be a pain, I'd just drive up also.
Would you be coming 270 to 15 or up through 83?

Sorry I won't be coming today (Sat Oct 25th). I started out but hit rain so turned around. I dont like wet riding that much. Am sure you will have a great turnout though. Hope to see ya next time.

Lou,
Thanks for hosting the Tech Day. The weather wasn't all that good, but we were in the garage taking Lou's bike apart which was fun.

Dave, thanks for coming yesterday. It was a great time and I really learned a lot about my LT. It was great meeting the 5 guys that came. Hopefully we all made some new friends and without a doubt learned about our bikes.
Thanks again,
Lou

Dave, excellent step-by-step instructions. I learned a lot of those little tricks that make each step so much easier.

Thanks to Lou for holding the tech event and to Dave for sharing his knowledge. It was great to meet some additional LT owners. I look forward to meeting up with all of you in the future.
PS:
Still have donuts left - could not eat the all!!
Also, the session got me going and today I will be doing a little extra work on my bike - installing a power connection directly from the battery for my heater gear, and replacing the plastic mirror teather with a metal one
Thanks again guys for a nice afternoon.

I live in Stroudsburg. Own an 06' LT purchased from Touch of Class. I've removed the plastic to install lights. Also done transmission oil change, final change, and regular oil, and other things. I'd like to visit you on Tech Day.
Thanks,
