Hi All
A question for all you LT fans. Does anyone know if there is a way to shorten the time that the turn signal flashes before self cancelling?? At slow (parking lot) speeds they seem to stay on too long causing a possible hazzard. Any info would be helpful. Thanks Mark

Press the switch near your right thumb and it magically shortens the time it flashes.

Can I get a switch installed on the left hand grip so I can cancel it out on that side too? I mean.. come on.. I'm cruisin.... (cruise on) right hand picking my nose... knuckle deep and I have to let go of the bars and reach across with my left hand and hit the switch.. really awkward. Besides.... what's one more switch? I mean.. after 10.. who cares?:D

Anyone here ever use HAND signals? Self-canceling at its finest. :D

Hand signals are great but the cages think your waving at them. They no longer know what they mean.

Fortunately for me, I got used to canceling the signal, and not relying upon the timer.
Its just a force of habit.
My bike prior to the LT didn't have self canceling turn signals.
The one before that, didn't have turn signals--it was a 70s thing to remove anything that didn't make the bike run, including the front brake and fender cause they didn't look cool!?

Turn the key to the "ON" position, wait 5 seconds, hold the signal "CANCEL" button in while twisting the throttle to full open twice as you squeeze the clutch handle in and fully depress the rear brake pedal.
Now, allow the throttle to return to the closed position and let out the clutch. Then release the rear brake. Turn the ignition off, then switch the ignition back on and start the bike. Let run for 10 seconds then kill the engine. Then, and only then, you release the signal "CANCEL" button.
If you missed any of these steps or performed them out of order you must start over again.
Now, bear in mind, after performing this complex adjustment, your auto cancel will remain 10 seconds but..... it won't seem that important any longer. What you've done is adjusted the operator. No charge for this advice.

Yes, hit the cancel button with your right thumb.

Mark,
When I first got the LT I too had trouble remembering to cancel as I came from an Ultra Classic that had self canceling. Short of buying an after market self canceler, you are just going to have to get in the habit. I ride with other LT's from the area and throughout the ride, we take turns forgetting and ribbing the one who did.

Interesting as LTs DO have self cancelling signals. And they don't take all THAT long to cancel! :bmw:

They take just long enough to create a thread :)

No problem. Always at your service.
It just shows you that we are all itching for the weekeing to arrive to go riding - and what a nice weekend here in the Northeast!
Seriously, by the way, I am somehow on the other side of the spectrum: I find myself compussively pressing "Cancel" several times after each maneuver. Barely - if ever - do I let it self-cancel. Habit from other bikes. Me-thinks a good habit.

Ditto. The 2/10's of a mile ticker for the signal to self-cancel is only good for highways .. when you're making lane changes at highway speeds ... that's about it at best.
Now what's really annoying.. is that my left thumb occasionally tags the 130dB horn instead of the left signal switch... scaring the bajezzus out of whomever happens to be closest and embarrassing myself just for fun. Oooppse.

That would be the audible left turn signal. :histerica

Try turning on your turn signals a little earlier, then they will cancel soon after your turn. Agree that it is best to self cancel manually in the city.

You've got a point there!
Don't people read their owner's manuals?

Drive faster..
the self-cancel function is based on distance travelled ( 300 meters I think)

You're a good sport.
And I guess it's true "Ya get what ya pay for". I definitely should keep my day job.
