I did a coolant change last week and briefly I would like to share a couple of tips.If any of the experts disagree please correct me.

1.Get 1.5l of concentrated anti-freeze from a BMW car dealer(unless bike dealer closer) Blue in colour £7.40 and mix it with de-ionized water 50:50.

2.remove left fairing and centre section of engine spoiler. No need of removing left battery cover or tank.

3.pull off vent hose from radiator and position it lower than expansion tank so that drains totally ( mine was clean so no further action). Open filler cap on left radiator

4. loose slowly big hose attached to right radiator(rather than the end attached to pump which is harder to remove and re-attach), and collect fluid kneading also other hoses. No need to remove water pump temp. sensor( any point on doing this??)

5. I managed to squeeze a piece of garden hose up to the left radiator filler neck(no need to remove tank) and poored slowly 2.5l of coolantand added 0.6l to expansion tank. Knead large hoses. Refit vent hose.

6. start engine for 2-3min and open throttle several time s. Close L radiator cap. Bring to working temp and check fans are working. Add coolant if necessary to expansion tank.

7. I went for a ride to make sure no overheating etc. No problems and felt satisfied. Saved about £175!

Hope this is of some help if you are in doubt.

Just 2 questions:

Why Honda(I own a Silverwing) recommends a silicate free antifreeze(claiming may spoil rubber seal/water pump) and it is ok for BMW to use a coolant with silicates? Why nitrate free only and not also phosphate/amine free is recommended?(assuming de -ionized water is used)
