Thanks for the reference. I rode an R 1200 RT in the Dolomites (Italian Alps) this summer. It was a great bike. I liked it so much that when I returned to California I sold my K 1200 LT and my Suzuki 650 V-Strom and purchased my own RT. The idea came to me on a short trip that I made after returning from Italy. I was cruising up past Napa on the LT when I actually thought, "This is a little boring after Italy."

I picked up the RT yesterday from Marin BMW (Nice Flolks) On the way home I felt that familiar engine thump that only a twin can produce. Also felt the nimbleness on a bike 250 Lbs. lighter than the LT.

I tried the "on the fly" electronic ride control, which the European bikes didn't have. Woh! Very nice. From Sport to Comfort what a difference. You can feel it within 5 seconds of pushing the button.

Well, I'm off to ride my new bike.

Outstanding! Enjoy your new ride. I'm jealous - that's an excellent bike. Two requests: (1) name and location? And (2) if you do any 2-up riding, the comments of the pillion regarding relative comfort of the RT vs the LT would be most appreciated.

Ditto that last,

I've been eyeing the RT with great interest. I love my LT, but the damn thing is 150 pounds too heavy. I'd love to know what the pillion thinks about the RT, since my SO is ALSO in love with the LT, and would nix anything significantly less comfy.

She thinks it is just fine and also very comfortable. she only misses the heated backrest. Call in at Herpigny in Namur and they will give you an RT to ride with her for trying out...

I'm Phil Neff, near San Francisco, California. I do a lot of two up riding. My wife has much experience as a passenger on both bikes. She was with me in Europe on the RT and also did New Zealand on an RT a few years ago. And of course she did much riding on the LT. We went to Colorado together and have been all over California and Oregon on the LT. She says the LT is definately more comfortable, better wind protection. She says the RT is more sporty, but "comfortable enough." She got into the Italian passes and liked the excitement.
I think her comment that the RT is comfortable enough is the key. I kind of feel the same way. There is no doubt that the LT is quieter (wind) and smoother (4 cylinders) but maybe the LT is too quiet and smooth, at least for some folks.
Hope this helps.
