When installing a fuel cell, is it better to install on the pillions seat frame or the tail (top box removed)? Using a gravity system, it appears the tail installation would be best.
I have two weeks to install the JAZ plastic 4 gallon tank and need your opinion.
Where did you tap your tank? Any pictures or comments would be appreciated.

Windman -- you will find many riders who have done similar installations on the Iron Butt forum and the Motorcycle Touring Forum:

I think you'd be better off replacing the pillion seat, simply for the weight balance on the bike. Plus, the couple of inches of height shouldn't make a huge difference in the rate at which you can transfer fuel to the main tank.

All IBR competitors mount there cell on the passenger seat. Contact Bill for fittings and advice.
Dont forget to ground the fuel cell.

Thanks for the comments. I received my Summit Racing 4 gallon tank and am now scratching my head. I like the idea of mounting ON the pillion seat. Otherwise, I have to remove the seat and mount to the frame. If I mount on the seat, it will require a custom wedge to keep the tank level, an aluminum plate under the tank and straps. I'm riding in an IBA sanctioned event and wonder if this arrangement will pass tech inspection. Also, I talked to my BMW dealer today and he said to T into the fuel line instead of tapping the tank. So here we go. I'll keep you posted.

In that case you need to tap into the low pressure return line. Plus you will need a fuel pump, any garden variety fuel pump for carbureted auto's will do. IBR rule's require a switched fused power source to the pump.
