It appears that Janklow is getting his law license back via the courts.
Personally I think he should still be in jail like most of us would be under different circumstances.
I wouldn't say that if he wasn't tagged as reckless and dangerous well before the accident, as a driver.
I wonder if he's going to represent bikers' in court cases, maybe he'll learn something. The veteren he killed will never have a chance to learn anything.

To give a law license back to that killer stretches the term criminal justice.

That just sucks. I realize he has a right to get on with his life and make a living, but as you said Randolph Scott and his family don't get that chance.

Hey, George - you read that somewhere? That he IS getting his license back? I read that he wuz *trying* to get it back in the courts, butt the Dakota's highest court has upheld his conviction of second-degree manslaughter for the crash that killed Randy Scott. The court rejected his argument that there wuzn't enough evidence for a guilty verdict (an argument in his appeal that wuz an attempt to get his law license back). I read the above in the January '06 BMW ON, so maybe thangs changed since publication deadline.

Dick,
read the same article you did. I think he is trying to get his law license back but we will see what the court says.
He should be made to provide free council to victims of people who kill others while driving.

On th AP today...
Former Rep. Bill Janklow, who resigned from Congress after being convicted in a deadly traffic accident, will have his law license reinstated next month, the state Supreme Court ruled Thursday.
The decision followed a recommendation by the State Bar's Disciplinary Board. The judge who sentenced Janklow in the manslaughter trial had recommended waiting until Janklow's probation ends in January 2007. Instead, the license will be reinstated Feb. 15.
Janklow, a former four-term governor, was automatically suspended as a lawyer after a jury found him guilty in December 2003 of running a stop sign and killing motorcyclist Randy Scott, 55, in August 2003.
The Republican politician spent 100 days in jail, was put on probation and cannot drive for three years.

Thanks, Vince - I missed today's newz. And I agree with Ken - this just plain sucks. Guess I can't hope that the folks that approved this have to explain their decision to Scott's family!

What ever happened to the family's wrongful death lawsuit?

We are all old enough to know that things happen for reasons, even though those reasons are not always readily apparent.
I still pray for the Scott family.
As for Mr. Janklow, it's a dangerous world....sure hope he is extra careful this time around - would hate to have something terrible happen to him.

Perhaps he'll be crossing the street one day and get hit by Karma? http://www.bmwlt.com/forums/images/icons/icon11.gif

Never mind the karma how about a drunk driver running him over making him a cripple? i know cripple is not PC but with this guy who cares
Imagine the outrage!
Perhaps a more meaningfull punishment would be 15 years of cleaning the bed pans of victims of drunk drivers that are para or quadra plegics.
This is not the correct Christian attitude I should have. But God may have a purpopse for him greater than we can imagine. Like cleaning bed pans for people injured by drunk drivers.

Is anything being done on an organized (or disorganized) to let S.D. know how displeased motorcyclists are about the lax attitude toward killing riders? I'm thinking I will do my best not to spend any of miserably few dollars there. Anyone else got some ideas?

Amazing how our lawmakers are the biggest law breakers. Mayhaps a certain lobyist will bring more to their knee's, but I doubt it.

Dick, I picked the article up in yahoo news..it was only there for a very short period of time.
Attitude is everything. His attitude during this whole event was pathetic, like he was above the law or something.
And obviously, he was. If I had the driving record he does (and I'm no angel) I wouldn't have a license, car or insurance.
Accident's happen, even stupid ones. The worst accidents are on rural roads, we all know how dangerous they can be. But cheez, blowing a stop sign without even looking??? The guy is plenty old enough to know better than that!
Killing a guy that survived a war just makes it more of a bitter pill to swallow.
Stay awake out there, I never cross an intersection anywhere, car or bike, without looking both ways as I move through it, like a cat on a hot tin roof with gears/throttle/brakes on high alert.
Its almost harder to relax in the country when there are a lot of these intersections inbetween farms, etc. We've lost a lot of people, especially young ones here in MI in the rural areas that ignore stop signs and dont' look.
Ya'll take care out there...geo

As of Monday, he'll be free and clear, with a clean record. He was effectively pardoned by a judge who is now retired. No more Congress, but he keeps all his retirement benefits, law license, and driver's license. This still sucks.
I think as a condition of his probation, he should have had to go to Sturgis and give a speech on how sorry he was. That would have solved that problem right quick.

And getting his law license back is exactly what is wrong with our government. Professional politicians.

Put a bullet in him, about 4 inckes above his pelvic girdle dead center through the spine.

PS was having to be a lawyer part of his sentence? Like you can serve only 100 days, but then you have to be a lawyer. :histerica

Can't bring myself to put a Mr in front of his name.
Don't judge the people of South Dakota by this sleeze bag. I grew up there and the folks there, given the choice, would probably deal with him a whole lot more harshly than his fellow politicians did.
Shameful about sums it up.

This week a jury convicted a man of road rage; murder in the first degree. He will serve a life sentence for causing the death of two men. Hope it sends a message.
Here is an article about the CSP call in number. The joker above had received several notices before he killed two men. Wonder if there is a better way.
