Our Friend Dell Fields pass away yesterday afternoon at home. He told Joan a few days ago that it would be a "beautiful death", She said it was exactly that. He is in a better place now, in no pain and cancer free.
I'll miss you brother.

I am without many words. Part of me is happy that Dell is now free. I pray that Joan will find peace, and know that she will survive her loss.
The selfish part of me will miss Dell for a long, long time. He was truly a great person.

The Sun has dimmed, birds sing less sweetly and the usual beckoning of the road has gone silent. The world has lost someone special with the only solace being that Dell is in a better place free of his painful burden.

I saw Joan just awhile ago and she is doing ok. Her family will be with her until the end of the month. I'm sure Joan could use some support and visits then when her house is empty. She also said that there will be no service. She and Dell both felt that every day of the last month has been a special service of some kind like when we all went over there last Wednesday night. It meant a lot to him and Joan and her family. He went in a special place with special people around him every day. He not only had a bunch of friends from the motorcycling community but also Hewlet Packard where he spent 22 years. He had quite a few of them visiting also.
I will miss everything about him. There was only one Dell.

One of the few truly great people I have had a chance to know, I wish I had had more time to spend with him, but the time I did was special. I will miss him.

God Bless,

There will be no service per Dell's wishes.
I know he would appreciate any donations go to the Sutter Roseville Cancer Patient Support Group.
We can celebrate his life every day by trying to live up to his legacy.
He is the bravest, kindest, most talented individual I've ever known.
I am grateful to have known him, he will ride with me always.
Good-bye friend.

Anyone who spent even a few moments with Dell would know what a great man he was, quiet yet a great sense of humor, intelligent but never boastful. Jessica and I will always have a place in our hearts for him. Dell will be truly missed.

Thank you for all the kind words and good wishes from the board members. Dell had a spectacular finish to his life. I am proud and honored to be his wife and see to all his needs. It is obvious from the various messages that you too felt the same way regarding your friendship. A few nights prior to his passing, Dell said to me, "Beautiful Death, Beautiful Life". The profoundness of the words of this weak, dying man brought tears to my eyes. He was right. He was surrounded by love and compassion during his passing moments. I held his hands and our eyes were locked as he drew his last breadth. It was indeed a Beautiful Death. There was no fear, no pain and he is now liberated from all sufferings. May Dell's life story continue to inspire you and his spirit lives on within your heart just as he will in mine.
Sincerely,
Joan Lim (Dell's wife)

Pippin: I didn't think it would end this way.
Gandalf: End? No, the journey doesn't end here. Death is just another path . . . one that we must all take.
Gandalf: The grey rain-curtain of this world rolls back, and all turns to silver glass......And then you see it.
Pippin: What, Gandalf? See what?
Gandalf: White shores . . . and beyond. A far green country, under a swift sunrise.
Pippin: Well, that isn't so bad.
Gandalf: No... No it isn't.

Such sad news. I wish I'd had the chance to meet Dell, but I've heard the stories. I've had way too many friends and family members who've succumbed to cancer, so it's something I'm all too familiar with. But I've never heard of anybody who could spit in the face of cancer and continue to embrace life the way that Dell did. Godspeed, Dell. Condolences and best wishes to Joan and the rest of Dell's family.
