To each his own . . . I guess.

I personally think that BMW owners are actually the worst offenders at trashing a stock bike when we modify (farkle) them. Harley guys tend to try to add to the beauty of their machine. GoldWinger tend to customize their bikes with LEDs and chrome. But at least the mods are somewhat integrated, albeit gaudy and/or over-done. BMW owners/riders, while in the name of "funtionality", destroy the esthetics of their machines. Some of the lights I've seen mounted to the front of an LT are nothing short of unbelievable. All in the name of functionality, of course. ;)

I agree!
Coming from the Harley side I am amazed at how BMW ridders add farkles without any thought to the asthetics of the bike!
There are a few things that I would like to add...but...they would ruin the lines of the bike, so...they don't go on. ;)
Lights are not one of them! :D

I've seen 18-wheelers with a FEW more lights than that!

The guy obviously love's his LT, though. Or maybe he's concerned about being seen.

Back in the day, my best buddy and I "tricked out" his Ford Courier pickup (hey, I said it was back in the day!) with pinstriping everywhere.

His dad came home, and rather than heaping praise, said "That thing looks like a circus wagon!"

I keep my LT lean and clean...

Maybe he rides with a big group of Gold Wings and wants to blend in a little, who knows!!

To each its own..

I have seen worse. Actually it's not THAT bad - except for the red and blue lights that can be seen from the front - which is a big no no in the US. Now if they flash or blink on and off in sequence via computer control - that would be tacky.

As to farkles and add-ons, no one beats some GS riders with their Inspector Gadget -Tour-a-Tech add-ons, etc, etc. To my taste they turn their bikes into big & heavy lumbering "Swiss-Army" knives, (like the one with 52 tools) equipped as if from the hardware & survival store. I suppose there is a place some place on earth for them to use all their "functional farkles" but it seems many don't even get their "go anywhere" bikes of the asphalt. :rotf:

I'm pretty much of the less is more school when it comes to add-ons. But then recognize that's just my opinion.

I always chuckle when I see a rider with funny lights and decorations on their bike. Tho it's no where near as bad as loud pipes that hurt your ears and ruin the peacefulness of riding. But it is funny when they tell you their pipes are loud because it's a safety feature "if they can't see me, they'll hear me" :histerica

maybe he's concerned about being seen.

How many of us have added extra lighting, like MotoLights on the fork, or PIAAs under the nose, for a little 'I want to be seen' value? What about the 'Wings of Gold' or the lighted tip-over covers? Lights in the saddlebag reflectors? This guy did his own thing, getting the "I want this bike to stand out", without losing the ride qualities of an LT. Some get that effect with adding flames, pin striping, or just leaving it plain. Although its not for all of us, I like those lights.

That's a drop in the bucket compared to that Pacific blue LT and uni-go that was at CCR08. I beleive the guy was from Cincinnati, OH. Don't remember the name though.

That guy from Cincinnati with all the blue LED's and blue sheepskin on the seats is Darrel Kidwell...I spoke with him and he is quite entertaining. It is quite refreshing to meet someone different and appreciate the individuality among the riders. The 2008 CCR was my first and I totally appreciated meeting such a large group of first class folks.
I also had the privilege of working with John Zeiler in the Tech Sessions...now, here's a classy, knowledgeable individual...I was somewhat disappointed he didn't receive some recognition during the closing banquet. Ride safely!

I would agree 100%
Simply put, how can you add anything to perfection without diminishing the appearance? Leave it only to BMW engineers to improve the appearance.
GW does not come close to the beauty of K1200LT. Just talk to folks who dont even own a machine, they will favor the looks of the LT. All others, need to add something for a twinkle.

That thing's lit up like a "chicken hauler".

Do you know the difference between a chicken hauler and a chicken truck?

A chicken hauler, hauls chickens.

A chicken truck has a driver that is afraid to be out alone after dark! :histerica

This LT owner has a chicken motorcycle.
