How would you improve/change on the RT if you had your say?
What would you like to see on the RT that is not out there yet ?

That's a toughie.
Maybe a slightly taller 6th gear. Other than that, another 10-15hp might be nice. An improved factory radio option is probably the most glaring issue I see.

Build a seat that is comfortable for long rides. BMW should be ashamed to put such a third class item on an otherwise first class machine.

Engine guards and Pannier Guards as STANDARD equipment in 2010!
That would have been NICE on the 08 I just got...

XM ready and MORE POWER. The seat has to be addressed as some older models had better seats. 100k mile warranty on the drive train from the Factory.

Many of you made excellent suggestions of which I agree.
Here's my wish list as a proud new owner of an RT of 08 vintage.
1. The seat looks like something on a 3000 dollar ukranian shit box. Definitly needs an upgrade in material and workmmanship as it feels like cheap vinyl and fits the machine like it was made for something else . Not even up to the standard of my trade in, a R 1150 R..............whoah. terrible excuse for quality workmanship.
2. I'm happy with the power band and anticipating even smoother deliver in time , however, the dry clutch is as clunky as ever and stalling on hills as aggrivating as can be. Needs taller sixth with lower final drive to giver more grunt on takeoff especially with two up.
3. l like the lighter weight emphasis and expect more plastic in time to keep the weight down but come on. A tool box from nowhere and one has to buy the tire patching kit and other things that should be standard equipment on a fine road machine like an RT. It isn't much dough but it is the thought that counts.
3. Radio and intercom should be standard , I'm fine with the zumo being optioinal and having purchased mine and installed it with the Qyantum 2 headsets I'm very happy with my bluetooth arrangement. That said blue tooth should be a part of the bike incorparating the ability through a standard intercome wire free system that you can bet will be on all new GW's in 2010.
4. The bags have been a huge improvemtn and top boxes would be great to have optional luggage racks on top and tail lights with pulsating flashers not unlike auto's.
5. The body work is handsome, took some getting used to but is still a bit over the top in complexity for a bike. Also everything is indeed fragile. Not having a catch wire already on the pop off mirrors is an oversight that is unacceptable on this level machine. I know I know ., I solved it with safety wire .
5. Mirrors are shit. I added my own old style with no problem and solved my blind spots but the faired mirrors are more of a safety problem than a solutioin for rear visiabilty so a redesign during the makover should be a priority.
6. Free service during the warranty period visa vie, Mini cooper , BMW autos, etc would be way cool and extended warranties with road side service would be worth paying for. Or they could just make a drive line that was bulletproof as the used to do.
7. As many others mentioned, I'm for dipsticks, engine and pannier guards standard would all be way overdue considering every single model sold gets dropped in it's first 6000 miles , for some at no small expense.
Premium machine for folks who appreciate that in a Bike means Premium service after the sale, so consistency from dealer to dealer would be a step in the right direction. Currently that is NOT the case.

I'm 5'10" w/34" inseam, about a buck85 and a bit of a gut. Got my left over 07 in March and put about 4500 on it. It's a great bike overall, but no doubt there are things that would make the ride just that much more of a pleasure. Here's what I would like to see:
- a tool kit. really. what a piss poor sorry thing we get today.
- a lower first gear, like walking speed at idle.
- prolly a better seat.
- additional or better mirrors. Seeing my grip is useless.
- better wind screen (aero). Stock buffets like crazy.
- adjustable handlebars (rise/back)
- adjustable foot gear (lower)
- perhaps better stock non-ESA shocks
I've no problem with the clutch and the clunk tranny is fine. It keeps me trying to be smooth.

I am 6' tall and feel the bike is to tall at my height.
!st Lower Seat height 2nd make a seat worth riding this bike
for longer rides 3rd make it so you can see behind bike by
extending mirrows out another inch or two .
And would also agree to lower first gear some.
And make the bike so it is dependable and do away with EWS.
The seat height and comfort are my biggest complaint of
the 2007 RT..
Almost a year and still not comfortable.
Taking Sargent seat to local shop and see if we can come up
with foam to meet my needs and height..
I am also going to add alumium pan to extend seat back farther
into rear seat by 2 inches and make rear seat my backrest and
really not steal much if any rear seat room..
Will let you know results hopefully in few months..Joe

What everybdoy else said plus I would add the following:
- functional and (gasp) accurate fuel gauge
- volt meter
- side stand down indicator
- more "spacing" between 5th and 6th
- horn button in a better postion - tired of giving the angry left blinker at times
- pre-built fuse panel 60 to 70 A
- second set of pannier inner straps for the outside half of the clamshell
- tie down locations on rear frame triangle and below rear rack.

Minor hijack - I addressed the weak horn by adding another BMW horn to the bike - harness is already there all you need is the horn, mount and screw.
Back to regularly scheduled programing :)
