A dealer will have to do it.

Assuming (always a problem on my part...) you have an R1200RT... what functions/information do you want (to) reset?

At the risk of being redundant, all over again...
what service setting? What does it say, show or do? My '05 either does not have one or it has not triggered...

Like all BMW cars, the '08 RT now has a dash readout indicating miles remaining to the next service.

To answer the OP's question - if you have an 08 the service message is dealer clearable only.
Stixx - as to the location - it is in the lower left hand bottom corner of the RID
It is displayed at start up and does a count down to how many miles are left to the service, once start up is complete it goes away, this is initiated when you are ( i think) about 600 miles from being due.
However, once you have gone over that milage like I have it just says service all the time.

I must be a dummy never noticed it before, I'm going out and crank mine up and see what yall are talking about. I know the ABS cycles until you drive off and if the sensor gets askew, it comes on everytime the brakes get wet. LOL A buddy found that one out for me .
I have already made an appointment for my first service at six thousand miles as I am averaging about a hundred miles a day so by first or second week in October I'll be six grand already. Wow this could get expensive. It will be interesting to see how these Continentals do on mileage as well. I mostly ride on the sides of them . LOL

Had some problems while coming home from Gillette in July. My Master Tech from the dealership had me clear CanBUS and reset the computer by removing the positive and negative leads from the battery and holding them together for about 30 seconds.
Worked!

Just out of curiousity ... doesn't the GS-911 work with the R1200RTs?

I can see taking power off the computer.
I do not see how holding the positive and negative battery ternimal does anything.

Connecting the battery cables and connecting them together will ground the system out, similar to what you do when you want to work with a capacitor.

That makes sense.
Interesting - I got my service light coming on - with in 600 miles of the 12K service.
will try that after i do the service and over 12K.
Simple enough to do.
