I guess that question has been asked many times but it seem's I cannot find the info.

So here it is: Before I dig to the standard radio of the 1200RT, I need to know if the Autocom super pro can be connected to the rear speakers output of the standard BMW radio. The assembly instruction of the Autocom show how to install the kit on the front speakers but don't say anything about the rear radio outputs usage allowing I presume the use of the radio fader.

I've tried to sort it out with the tech support of Autocom but, the reply was to follow the supplied instruction sheet on internet (front speakers). Not to say I was suprised with such a simplistic answer.

So first, are those rear radio outputs exist? and second if so, is the sound quality equivalent as if I use the front speakers as proposed by Autocom?

If one of you can answer, you would be more than than qualified to work at Autocom UK. This would be an improvement for their customers service ;)

The Autocom music input is a 3.5 mmm stereo plug which is one end of the adaptor. The other end is 4 wires (right + & -, Left + & -) that you join to existing wiring. There are instructions on this site for connecting to LT wiring.

Maybe it is easier to connect to the front wires. Are there rear speakers on the RT? If not are you talking about connecting directly to rear speaker outputs at the radio?

Thanks for your quick reply..

Indeed, assuming the the RT radio have front and rear output connectors, my plan is to connect the autocom wires to the radio rear speakers output since only the front speakers output are used.

Is this make any logic at all?

I am sure the radio will be a standard DIN sized car unit which will PROBABLY have rear speaker outputs. Does it use standard DIN plugs or BMW specific ones? Which ever type it is the rear speakers will probably not be wired and the connectors within the plastic body of the plug may not be present - never having seen one I do not know. If they are present then I would imagine that you can just connect to then - if they are not I do not know if you can get new connectors. You may be able to get hold of a fully populated plug and splice that onto the supplied harness.

They do exist, you need BMW pinouts to connect the Autocom cable to the rear of the radio using pins 3,6,12 and 14 (rear speakers). Then you can use your handlebar controls to fade to rear speakers (helmet) or front (bike speakers) as required. The link below will help explain, let me know how you go.
