I saw in this forum here:
http://www.bmrider.com/forums/showthread.php?p=12415

That thread states more than just colors are changing in the 2009 R1200RT. Possible motor and body changes. Not that it matters all that much to me as I just purchased a new 08 but was just curious if others had heard the same things??? I guess no one will know for sure until it is actually released... Figured for anyone sitting on the fence considering an 08 might want to wait a month or so and see if the rumors were true....
Just curious...

I may be in the market to trade my 2006 for a 2009. I'm searching the internet to find any news. I'll follow this post.

Wow!! Thanks for the update.. I would have been slightly perturbed if 2 months after I pulled the trigger on a blue 08 the body and engine changed and all I saved as 750 bucks as an incentive... LOL! January 2010 is a ways off...
Thanks again!

I've sold my FJR1300 to give a deposit on a fully equipped r1200rt 2009. The saleman told me that the only change for next year would be the balck version. Hope I will have no suprise!
It took me a month to negociate with my other half. She said 'yes' because of the actual design and the seat confort. Please someone tell me that I whont have to start over that complicated negociation process :o

Crap, that isn't the news I was hoping for! I have a buyer for my 2006 and the possibility of some changes would have inspired me to buy a 2009. :(

Well you and I both should be upset that 750 is all we saved buying this late in season an 08. Some have reported much more substantial savings having bought this late in season. But I did get the color and equipment packages I wanted and didn't have to buy more than I wanted. That made the deal a bit sweeter in my case. Plus they gave me a decent price on my old R model.

No worries I am sure if I was more hard headed I could have gotten something else thrown in or another accessory for free... They did give me 50% off a 500 dollar helmet, which was cool i guess... If I ever sit there and think OMG i just spent 20K (with equipment) on a motorcycle what was I thinking... All i have to do is take her out for a ride then I am like:
OH YEAH... THIS IS WHY!!!! :wave

At most funerals, the hearse is black. So a model that is soon to be discontinued should be painted black out of respect for the soon to be deceased.

Just got word that my 2009 RT with all options except radio, exited production and is on the boat headed to New Jersey. Munich production for the 09 RT's started on September 1. I asked the dealer about the engine change and he doesn't have any information.

Noticed a few dealers are listing 2009 R1200RT bikes in stock... Anyone pick up one of the new BLACK ones? If so, could you post some pics as I was curious how that was going to look...
Thanks in advance...

I have a deposit on the '09 in black, as well, at BMC Fort Worth.

The new black is "sapphire black metallic" as I understand, which is obviously not the same as the pure gloss black on, say, the LT. Does anyone know if this particular black has been used before?

I think ukrt is correct that any further changes are not in the offing for this model year. My dealer is an exclusive BMW distributor and the guys there are not anticipating any motor or body changes. They have an '09 RT Low-Suspension on the floor and except for some seat detailing (which may have been specific to that model, with it's low seat as well as lowered suspension) it is identical to the '08's.

My first post, btw...greetings! :)

Well, beauty is in the eye of the beholder, a fact I readily admit. But I for one would welcome some change to the styling of the R1200RT. When it was first was introduced I was put off by the slab-sided "floating panel" styling, and the amorphic look of the headlights and air inlets. Styling to much like my grandkids transformer toys, for me. I went right out and bought one of the last '04 old style RT's. Still have it. :)

I would like to have some of the features the newer RT has, more power, lighter weight, cruise control, but just can't live with the look of it. :o

I apologize if my admittedly personal preference and descriptions offends anyone. I'm old. Still prefer single round headlights. So if you like the newer RT's, don't let my likes and dislikes rub you wrong. And lets not even discuss the styling of the recently discontinued latest model RS!

Sapphire black (metallic black) was used on the "special edition" 2004 R1150RT, basically the runout model of the range here in Europe. Seem to recall that the paint code was 918.

Just chopped in my 04 1150RT for a brand new 2008 model 1200RT as the BMW dealer offered me a unbeatable deal here in Britain.

Safe riding guys!

WINDMAN,

ANY word on your black 09 R1200RT? I ordered one about 6 weeks ago and was told it is in New Jersey waiting to clear customs. PLEASE post a photo if you get your bike. I will do same if I get mine. I was told 10-14 days to clear customs and ship to midwest. :toast:

My dealer said the same thing so it appears our bikes may have shared the same boat. I bet the only difference between my '07 and the new '09 is the ODO reading.

My dealer (Beaudry Motorsports, Couer d'Alene Idaho) told me a few months ago that the last run of a model at BMW is always black, and only black (like '08 LT, etc.). I doubt I'll be tired of my beautiful champaign ) '08 anytime soon, but it will be interesting to see what they have in mind for the new RT.

Not sure if that is totally accurate, but I would have to say I too have seen the black, at or near the end, pattern. The part of your statement of ONLY black is off....as there are THREE colors, one of them BLACK, being offered in '09. I was offered the three colors when I ordered my bike. The only option I could not order was the dark lowers....dealer said they were not offered with black as they did not match :( .

Silver is still the color to beat even though I don't have one I think it is the most endearing and looks the freshest the longest. Other colors I"ve seen like blue , perhaps my beige one, and black do not always age well. Then again my old R model in black did look pretty good cleaned up and polished.

Was at the dealer today to drop my 00' off for you guessed it, FD leak. Had a used 08' loaded with all but the radio. 2000 miles for $17k. Is that a "decent" deal?
Well looked on Ebay and in FL they have one with 15 miles for $16K so unless they will take both my bikes on trade and not try to kill me (ya right) it would be tempting.

The dealer in Greenville SC had 3 (sold) today. I sat on one with the low seat and the chassis has been redesigned lower as well. My 07 with a custom seat is not as low as this 2009. A welcome change for many.

I pulled the trigger today as I was able to trade my 03'V-Rod and my 00'RT in on a 08 that still has 2 1/2+ years left on the warranty(2150 miles). I am really impressed by this machine. I did try my friend's 07 and that did me in! :D

Good info and congrats. Nice post by JRESURF and the '09 looks and smells like my '07. Now I have to de-farkleize the '07. A well-placed source at the dealership says unless you have a bunch of very nice extras on the bike, it doesn't mean much at trade-in.

Anyone else have a take on de-farkleization of a trade-in? How much is fair trade-in value for an '07, "showroom shape", no ESC or TPM, RT?

Cylinder head looks the same. Don't think they can fit a twin cam in there.

I think the 2010's will receive the double overhead cams. I am in no hurry as I am thrilled with my 08'. Just a vast improvement over my 2000 which I really loved.

I purchased a 2009 RT in black a week ago. Traded my K1100LT in. Beautiful in black. Purchased one with standard suspension to avoid the complexity and future maintenance of the adjustable electronic option.

My sixth R bike, but first oilhead. So far very impressed.

One of the changes to the 09 RT is the option of getting the low frame which lowers the seat height by more the 2 inches. It also has a one piece seat rather than the two piece. For the vertically challenged it's a great option. :)

I picked up my new black RT on tuesday. Something must have been worn out on my 06 (shocks?) because the handling is much better. Horn sucks on the 09...so will have to pick up and install something different.

I sat on a lowered RT on the dealer floor. Seat is GREAT to look at...but has less padding. Per the dealer..the lowered version does not handle as good as the reg. version. He warned that unless you REALLY need the lowered version....don't get it. NOT my words, so please don't flame.

Love the new tire pressure monitor...just hope it keeps working.

The TPM (tire pressure monitor) is another farkle that can be problematic. My dealer stated that one should use a regular tire pressure gage rather than the TPM for air pressure check before each trip. He continued that the TPM was more of a warning device if the rider felt a change in handling and looked at the TPM he could detect that there was a major tire issue developing from loss of air pressure. There is not complete accuracy in the display. On my GS A, the TPM sometimes drops several psi when I am riding. As the tire warms up, the pressure should increase.

At some point in time, the TPM will require service as well.

I rode a lowered R1200GS factory demo bike today with the regular seat. If I bring by feet close to the bike and behind the foot pegs, I can flat foot the bike. I am concerned that without lowered pegs, my knees would be uncomfortably high on a lowered seat.

On my RT, I had Rick Mayer modify the low seat pan so it was slightly lower and I am still on tip toes unless I lean to one side. With the lower pegs (used Suburban Machinery parts), my let comfort is there but I occasionally drag my toes when leaning way over in a turn. My wear marks are up to the last 1/2 of side wall tread. I think that is good enough for me.

The lowered RT (there are some left over 2008 models on dealers floors) could pose a handling problem in tight turns. A test ride would confirm that supposition.
