I just received a pair of Moto Techniques Handlebar risers for my '07 from A&S. I like their looks and the fact they give you both an inch up and an inch back but instead of being flat on the bottom like the stock bars they have a recess (most likely for some other model bike) which looks like it would prevent the o-ring from sealing and thus allow water to collect around the fork tube hardware. It seems like a potential problem down the road. Has anyone tried these risers, if so, is any effort to restore the seal needed?

Sure you got the correct ones? I just removed mine last week, and just looked at them. I don't see any recess. In fact, I can see the circle left by the o-ring. Mine are flat on both sides w/ one edge beveled. Just like this on both mounting surfaces.

Interesting. I notice your part number is 513-056, same as mine. Perhaps they sent me a defect or mismarked part. Thanks, I'll call A&S and see what's going on.

Mine are flat on the bottom also.
I put mine back on Friday morning for a short ride.... took them off in the afternoon (again).
Nothing wrong with the parts, they just are no longer needed. Apparently I have finally developed muscle memory appropriate for the RT.
I would guess they shipped the wrong part

I talked to A&S. The 'extra' machining makes no sense, part of one of the threaded holes has been cut away in the process (seems like a bad thing for such a critical attachment point). At this point it appears to be a defective batch, A&S will call Mototechniques Tuesday and see what they have to say.

I just recently got some and they were the same way..
Just figured they covered more than one model and needed that for something to clear. Didn't worry me a bit.. (Says the guy who crashed last week cause of a bad valve stem.)
Me thinketh you might worrieth too much..( Once again says the guy....)
But then again, I could be wrong..
Keep us posted, If there is a problem with these then I'd better get them returned ass well...

I picked mine up directly from Moto-Techniques. They are not too far from my home in Fort Worth. Nice people by the way. I believe that the recess you have is so they will fit an 1150. Something about the fork tubes being above the triple-tree mounts on those models. Can't say for sure if I'm right about the model because I've never seen one. They told me that most dealers carry the ones with the recess because they will fit both the 1150 and the 1200. That way they don't have to stock two different parts when one part will fit two bikes.

well that's cool... now all you have to do is sell the R1200 and get a R1150...
Somethings make sense until they don't.... the O Ring under the R1200 is to keep moisture out of the space under the bars and above the top of the shock tower... of course if you never wash your bike and never ride in the rain it not likely to be a problem. If this O Ring no longer works... I think you are buying into a future head ache.

My concern exactly. If this is a deliberate change (remember, two members confirmed their risers don't have the extra hole) I figure either I will use a different brand of riser or make a gasket with RTV. Mine will get wet and the idea of posting a nightmare story about the dealer charging me for a new front end because the corroded nuts holding the fork tubes won't come loose and the whole thing had to be replaced doesn't set well with me.

And so it turns out this is exactly what's happening here. Whether do to financial considerations or error, A&S is selling the 1150 version for the 1200. Moto-techniques confirms many dealers chose to do this and so far no problems have been reported. I, for one, would prefer to maintain the water seal BMW engineered into the bike and will opt for the correct part.

Hello. I've never posted anything on anything but thought I could possibly help here. I ordered a set of risers from Moto-Techniques and the part number for the 1200 is 513-068. Part number 513-056 is for the 1100 and 1150. I just traded in my F800ST for the R1200RT and I think I now have a motorcycle.

You are correct. I ordered the right part directly from Moto-Techniques and love them. It's just the right fit for me. I couldn't find a local dealer that actually stocks the 513-068. They all offered me the 513-056.

I just took mine off - don't need them anymore, and they sold me the -56 (1100/1150) for my 1200.
But, all was well. They did their job and no water got in.
I just have to remember to use the proper description when I sell them on eBay.
