Hey Folks- Got a new toy, Nikon D40. It came with Picture Project software for editing. I want to be able to generate slideshows for sharing my photos but it doesn't look like PP does that. What's a good tool for making slideshows?
Thanks.

It depends what you want to do Bruce, are you going to burn them to CD/DVD's, put them on a website or is this just something for you on your computer?

Scott- Just looking to send it thru email to friends/coworkers for now. Possibly a website in the future.

Ahhh... well.... you will now learn of a best kept secret...
www.photodex.com
ProShow Producer from Photodex is the product I used to create those still slide shows. It has the power to do way more than what you see in the examples. However, it does what I need it to do simply and easily.
Take a look... try the demo... I was impressed... and have been impressed with Photodex products from before the advent of Windows NT...

I’d suggest using myspace.com or any of the other image hosting sites. (Google image hosting) I have a pet peeve about people e-mailing me a 10 or 15 meg file. Use a hosting service; then you can send your friends a link that they can visit when time is appropriate. I know http://imageshack.us/ will let you create and share a slideshow.

If your goal is to create a slideshow to be sent to friends and co-workers, I would suggest to use an online service, so that you can only send a link and you don't fill other people's mailboxes.
Some companies are quite picky about filling up the mailboxes and the alternative would be to send highly compressed pictures, thus losing quality.
My father is quite satisfied with PICASA (http://picasa.google.com/features.html), not sure if it's the same name all over the world... Anyway, it's also known as "Google Photo".
You can work fully online, or download their (free) application to create the albums, which are then uploaded on the google web servers for free. Using the offline application is better if you're managing lots of pictures, you can rework the pics and upload only the final versions, all at once.
You will only need a goggle account to use it

This is what I did in 5 minutes with Picasa:
http://picasaweb.google.com/Corrado.Toxiri/BMWK1200LT#
I didn't download the software, just used the web application. Didn't even resize the pictures... the program creates the "previews" and you can eventually download the full size pictures. Not something you'll do very often, but sometimes it's useful, for example if the recipient need to print the pictures.
There's also a button to send an e-mail with the link and a custom message to anyone you want
