Anyone see this story or know who was hit?

http://www.thepittsburghchannel.com/news/17387712/detail.html

A doctor was being chased by police and hit a motorcycle, killing the rider--in the picture, it looks like a blue LT was hit.

Looks like a blue LT with Bushtech trailer. Says the rider was from Greenbay Wisconsin. Driver should be locked up permanently:(

If you read through his posts, he never had a negative thing to say about anything, and was always there to offer helpful advice.

Rest in Peace, Keith. I didn't know you, but you will be missed.

Rest in Peace, Keith. I didn't know you, but you will be missed.I was noticing that myself - makes the whole thing suck that much more.

Let's see - a doctor is fleeing the police, fatally injures the motorcyclist then fails to render aid. I think his punishment should be slow, painful and eventually fatal.

I just spend some time reading his posts. He seems like such nice, smart, well adjusted guy. My heart goes out to his family and friends. It's hard not to get emotional. Just because someone tries to avoid a traffic ticket... What a sad thing to happen. The death penalty is too kind for a person like this, that obviously has no respect for human life.

Does anyone know if there is something we as a group can do for his family?
I would love to.

Unfortunately, the suspect will not receive the death penality. He also may only get a few if any years in prison. I am not familiar with PA laws or length of sentences. The suspect will get his day in court and so will the Brother's family.

In my career I have seen much unnecessary death. It always leaves me with the question, "Why". The only thing that I came up with that was understandable to me was something like this; "When your number is called it matters not what you are doing, who you are with or your status in this universe, your number is called and your gone, in an instant". It does not make it any more comforting but it does give me an explanation that I can live with.

Peace to you Brother and to your family as well.

I would be in favor of supporting a means of sending flowers, etc. to next of kin of member riders who have passed.

Echoing all the posts about Keith thus far, his posts epitomized what I've come to discover is the standard for our community, we're riders passionate about our hobby, open to sharing thoughts and ideas to improve our collective experiences, and above all we share a sense of fraternity with each other that enables such a forum as bmwlt.com to exist.

Though I didn't know you personally, thank you, Keith for having made this a better place for having you in it. Rest well, friend. Ride on. ATGATT

Regarding the idea of expressing condolences to Keith's family:

Here are links to the 2 local newspapers with short articles, maybe there will be an obituary page coming soon where comments can be left (some online papers have this feature) or at least his family's wishes and an address to send cards/flowers, etc. I'd be willing to contribute as part of a group as well, if no one else organizes it I will give it a try.

I just met Keith the day before his trip, I was in Festival foods when he came out to my bike, we talked for a couple of minutes and he mentioned his bike was all loaded up ready for the trip. He mentioned he spends lots of time on the forums reading about the LT. He seemed like a pretty upbeat kind of guy, he will surely be missed by his friends and family. I believe the newspaper said he is survived by his wife and son.

Me too. My thoughts and prayers to his family. It is a shame. Nothing more I can say. I wonder if it would make a difference to organize a ride to the arraignment. Let the world know what we think about people that do this type of thing. I am only 8 hours from there. I would be willing to ride there myself.

I am going to go by the Festival Foods store where he was the manager and find out what they are doing and what needs to be done. The store is only 2 minutes from my house.

Have contacted the funeral home handling the arrangements. Will speak with the director Monday and he can discuss our ideas with Keith's wife, Ann when he meets with her on Tuesday. Will update when I know more.

Meanwhile, read the comments his co-workers left @ the newspaper link above, he was apparently very well respected and liked.

I talked with the Asst. Store Manager at Festival Foods. She will pass my phone number on to his wife.

She is not sure what needs there are right now.

His son is not out of high school yet, so may be a college fund would help when he finishes school.

The Asst manager is going to contact me when she talks with his wife.

How many people have trusted their lives to that "doctor"? Let him practice in prison for the rest of his life. Personally, I think police should be able to shoot fleeing fools like that BEFORE they kill someone. There are some on this planet we should not be forced to live with.......... .......I feel for the family he left behind............... :(

I think this is a great idea. This is one of those senseless events that befalls a fellow rider and darkens all of our lives. No way to figure out this kind of thing. One way or another, the guilty party will receive what is coming to him. But that wont change the outcome for Keith and his family.

Very sad and frustrating. Can't figure out why this guy would run from police..130mph!! Maybe the country wher he came from police encounters were a little more "intense."
I will contribute also. Have 2 sons in college now, just can't imagine....

I was looking at the location of the T/C and hoping that is was not the same person as our forum member. But it is the same. I guess it doesn't make any difference, the tragedy is the same.

My stomach turns because the POS that killed him will be lucky to get 10 years, max, over this. Heavy ending to a long night....

We received the following email from one of Keith's friends:

=================================
I have been reading all the posts about Keith Brown and as someone who has known Keith for years I would like to get some information to your readers about Keith.

Keith was the Store Manager of Festival foods in Green Bay wisconsin. I met him when we both worked for Copps food Center in Green Bay back in 1984.

Keith was one of the nicest guys you could meet. He was like Norm from Cheers in the fact that no matter where we went everyone new Keith. His nickname was Kirby after Kirby Puckett of the Twins.

His favorite song was American Pie. Keith was always full of life and loved to laugh (and drink) I remember one time after a golf outing we were downtown and Keith took his driver out and teed up a ball in the middle of the road and was ready to let one rip when the Police stoped him. He asked if he was going to get a drunkin driving ticket.

Keith was the kind of guy that if you met him once you would always remember him. I was fortunate enough to have been close friends for several years before jobs took us in different directions. I will be at the funeral Thur. Night to say good by to my friend and pass on all the kind words and wishes you people have been saying.

Thank You.

Well I didn't have any luck making contact through the funeral home but here is the obituary from their website (http://www.prokowall.com/obit/memorials.php?uid=1083) .

At the bottom is this information:

In lieu of other expressions of sympathy a memorial fund has been established for Jesse’s education at Associated Bank.
Checks payable to:
“Keith A. Brown Memorial Scholarship Fund”
Associated Bank
2534A Steffens Ct.
Green Bay, WI 54311

Time to put our offers of contributions into place.
What does anyone think, should we send checks individually or collectively? If anyone wants I can set up a PayPal account where we can donate individually (you don't need a PayPal account of your own, anyone can use a credit card) and have one check delivered on behalf of Keith's fellow LT'ers.

There have been several public offers to help in this thread, and I'm sure there are many more who would be willing to kick in a little. Doesn't have to be much, $10 or even $5 from several hundred members adds up quick. If you can swing $20, $25 or more all the better

Post here or PM me with ideas/offers/suggestions.

Rick

I just spoke with Ann, Keith's wife, and she is very grateful for our thoughts and prayers. She said that they have a 12 year old son and the above address for the scholarship fund would be the best way to provide support.

It seems there was more interest in remaining anonymous and making individual donations. I have not inquired about PayPal'ing (verb?) to the scholarship fund but if anyone uses online banking with free bill payment it's even easier than PayPal.

If PayPal is preferred I'm still willing to forward as a check, just PM me.

I received the attached "Thank You" note yesterday.

Besides my own, I facilitated a donation from our member and friend Graham Wintersgill from Scotland. I find it remarkable and refreshing that a member from Scotland will help support the son of a deceased fellow rider he has never met. Makes me proud to be part of this group.

If you have not yet donated to the:

“Keith A. Brown Memorial Scholarship Fund”
Associated Bank

Green Bay, WI 54311

Please do so now. Just a few dollars from each of us will go a long way.

Thanks!

I'm sorry I missed this when it happened, but glad you updated the post. Our prayers are with the family of our fellow rider who are just beginning to live life without their loved one. May peace be upon them.
On another note, may the POS who did this never see the light of freedom shine upon him again.
