Yup, the only thing more dangerous than riding deal's gap is doing it side-by-side in formation.
All it takes in one idiot to wipe out the departments Motor Squad.

I'm sure that was staged for the picture.

Actually probably not. As weird as it sounds to us, that's how many departments spend training days. They'll go for a day ride in the foothills and ride side by side like that for hours...
I've ridden with a few of my buddies who are or where motor officers and I'm comfortable riding in formation on the highway with them. I won't do it in the twisties though.

they ride up here all the time like that.
in fact that is how we rode all over florida with a fellow riderr we knew well , I would rather be side by side than staggared, unless of course the staggered one is dropped back as far as running single file

I know they are Professionals and practice all the time, but One jerk flying through the gap in a pickup towing a boat, or an 18 wheeler, or just any old rider heading the opposite way and crosses into their lane and it's bowling for MotorCops!

Then again, they appear to be going about 25mph. I'll ride next to any of those guys at that speed. :D

I won't do it in the twisties though.I saw twelve of Aurora's finest in training this morning - all dressed in t-shirts riding two abreast on a mix of 1150 and 1200 RTPs. I followed them for a couple of miles and they did everything in formation.
As was said earlier in this thread, if one of the front men goes down, it could wipe out a whole department.

Happened to one of our customer agencies 3-4 years ago (Honolulu PD)
Lady crossed the line and they lost 4 guys instantly. Pretty sad....

I would ride in formation with an motor cop aka "motorman" on the dragon any time, vs. riding staggered with someone that I did not know.

I did have to think about it, but we do training to go into corners, staggered. As the curve approaches the right front and right rear should drop back, just in case the "o-$hit" happens. Once the turn/curve ends back to side by side formation.

Look at the Chrome bar on the rear saddle bag. Those bikes are TIED together. Strange behavior indeed:D

the only person i trust to ride w/ is my former motor squad partner.. it's side by side always.. that comes from years of training and daily riding in all weather and traffic conditions......

This is called tether partner ride. Your rear crash bar is velcroed together with I believe is 40" nylon strap.
You are timed to go around 3 cones spaced out. The first cone you have to make a complete circle, the second cone you go the opposite side you did the first. The third cone you make complete 1-1/2 tuns to come back doing the same. Time stops and the start point. The first run is free then you a about a $5 fee. You attempt to get the fastest time with your partner.
You have to be in sink with your partner. You are talking and looking, ie the picture to see where your partner is. The guy in the inside circle has to go slow enough for the partner to be together so you will break the strap. The guy on the outside has to keep up with the rider in the inside, which requires a further lean. There is a lot of braking, clutching, banging motorcycle parts, mirrors, crash bars etc..............

That's the only way you can do this without killing eachother.... LOL
Neither of you can look ahead... you have to look at the other person's crash bar and talk the whole time. Definately the craziest thing I've ever done!!!
