Bent Front Wheel

I hit a pothole and got a little bend in the wheel. I bought a new wheel ($800) but some have told me I could have had it straightened. Anyone out there had this experience and what did you do?

This one has been brought up a lot. A search will turn up specifics, but people have either paid to have someone straighten the wheel professionally or have taken a rubber mallet to it. If I were to do it, it would have to be done professionally. I just don't like the idea of trying to beat it back in to shapre myself.
